Advantage to having the earnings posted

What is inside my shed?

First of all, I will say I am not in favor of having my earnings posted, BUT It comes to my mind that having all the earnings posted would do one thing. . . It would do away with all the people who think they are starting a discussion by asking us to post our earnings. This discussion always strikes me as needing the response of "None of your business." Possibly with expletives.

I'm afraid that it would do away with such posts less than you think because most of those posting them would be unlikely to take the trouble to browse through people's profiles to find the answer. They are - let's generalise - unfortunately, the kind of people who want everything handed to them on a plate. They would rather that people tell them what to do here than bother to read the Guidelines. They are the kind of people who come here in the blind assumption that they can treat it like Facebook or messaging and 'earn' money and, of course, their first thought is 'how much can I earn here?', not 'what is this site about?'. What I earn here is "None of anyone else's business" not so much because I am coy about it but much more because the information is irrelevant to the question they are REALLY asking!

I agree with you. As for myself ... truthfully ... a few dollars isn't going to make or break me ... I do love interacting here with you guys ... and the little pennies add up slowly. I don't even look at the amount when I come here. I'm already broke and have some pennies ... over time, one day I'm sure it'll pay out a few dollars, to add what ... ten dollars to what I have. I will know I sure wrote a lot to earn that. I'm going to write anyway ... so, it can be a little frosting on the cake. The best part to me ... is feeling excitement to come see if anyone 'spoke' to me here. That's the fun in this for me :)

@GrannyGee I was blessed to be here very near the beginning, ten years ago. Not quite as soon as @owlwings but pretty early. It was that charm of having people WANT to speak to me, and listen to me that made this place so dear to my heart, and addictive to the point I sometimes gave up sleep.

I have exactly the same reaction when someone asks how much we are making. I am against posting our earnings.

@Shavkat ..I wish I could pinpoint exact reason I am against it...for now that logic eludes me. I mean, if some are going to be silly asking that, they will be silly elsewhere too...right?

When I read about the idea of showing our earnings, I did wonder what possible advantage it could have. @owlwings had some sensible things to say about it, as he often does! One thing was that, if it is implemented, it should be a choice. It should be 'off' as a default and we can choose for people to see if we want to. I think that makes sense. I'm not sure I'd want to show other people my earnings, nor would I really want to see others'. It could put some people off it the earnings are not good, but it could encourage more interesting discussions while putting off those who think they can earn a living from asking if you prefer Coke or Pepsi, because people would a) be here for the discussions and/or b) see that the 'better' members (with the interesting discussions and the participation in other people's discussions) are earning more and encourage more positive participation if those members are earning the higher amounts. It could go either way but, really, I don't see that there's any real need or advantage to it.

@scheng1 That's if enough people really are earning that much and as long as the higher earnings truly reflect the higher quality and participation.

@scheng1 The people who need to see the amounts and do not believe us would probably still not be happy. I have seen a number of people ask if the site truly does pay.

It will be an encouragement to newbie to show that it is possible to earn a hundred dollars or more per year. When you get to see people with lifetime earning of $500, that shows that Mylot is a reputable site, and has been paying well for years.

I think it is not fine to post the earnings. As for me, it is considered a confidential thing.

@GardenGerty It is really not also a good thing to be asked about the earnings. Even in regular jobs, it is not healthy to compare salaries. Since it might also cause a big issue if known the salary by the other colleagues.

I like to have all time earnings show in profile page, but not the daily or weekly or monthly earning. When a newbie takes a look at the all-time earning, he will know that Mylot is reputable, and his effort will not be wasted.

It is nobody's business, but I never came across anybody who asked me how much I'd earned, unless I began the topic. lol. Same at the other end. Unless the person said I am sort of one dollar or two dollar, I never asked the person how much he or she earned.

Exactly, but there are "discussions" daily by people saying "Hi, list how much you have earned this month" or "list how much you have earned in your history on myLot." If I want to tell someone, I will tell them in a private message.I feel uncomfortable with some of the dollar for dollar amounts being told. I do not mind someone saying "I will make payout, or I will not make payout". Seeing a "discussion" like first mentioned is why I got this idea.

I don't care either way but I know very few care what I think. Oh well that's life. The one time I got asked in comment was because I felt (I could be wrong) that the new person wanted to get an idea of what was real. Mylot is an investment of time regardless of why a person is here and before investing time I thought the person wanted to know what was possible to make on the money side of things. I've had people ask me much more personal questions than what I earn here.

On Bubblews there were some people who would brag about making a huge amount. But one could see by their likes, views, and comments how much they were actually making. So, the braggers could be called on it if they were exaggerating. But, it didn't diminish the posts about how much people were earning. I am guessing they will let the idea go as it seems so many are against it.

I do imagine that they will. I like the fact that we can now see how people are interacting at the top of their page. How many discussions versus comments and responses. It gives a good feeling for the kind of connection they may be.

You mean mylot is going to start making it so we can go to each others profiles and see how much they have earned? It doesn't bother me I don't care if others know. I have been here a few months and haven't reached payout yet. I don't care about that either. I am earning slowly and enjoying my time here. I am at $6.80 in my account right now. I think the people who start a discussion asking us to post our earnings are just trying to come up with posts about anything they can to earn money. I don't want to bore people with a post like that.

Admin asked if we wanted that as an option. Most people do not. You are right. They are just trying to find anything to say, thinking that more posts are more earnings. @bluedoll suggested that people may want to know if the potential is worth the time invested, and she could be right. I think the time invested earns me a lot more than money, but in some countries the money is very necessary.

That is a good one. I wish I had thought of it. I am not in favor of it either, but if othes want to post theirs then who am I to say they can't? We do have the option to choose not to, and I might not, but then I might, as it is hard to know which is the best way to go. I think there are pros and cons for and against doing it.

I just remarked at a similar discussion. This discussion confuses me even more. So? Can people see my earnings OR is somebody asking for people to publicly declare their earnings? Because I can only see my own earnings and not anybody else's which is as it should be. I'm happy to see my earnings when I sign in to my account. I'm not even concerned with what anybody else is earning. Why would I want to know somebody else's private business??

Admin posted a discussion wondering if we would want our earnings visible. They also said it could be optional. They said it would be a fairly easy upgrade to make. For the most part most people do not want this, and I agree. I have however seen a few people get a little testy expressing their opinions. Yes, I am happy, very happy, with how the site is functioning right now.

@GardenGerty - I had not been active for a while ay myLot because I was updating my blogs and websites and realize now that I walked into the middle of the conversation. I've been redirected and have supplied my comment. Thank you. I'm loving the improvements made with this site. Although my daughter pointed out to me that the tags on your profile which used to show how many discussions you started for a particular subject area (or “tag”) no longer exist. I did kind of like those tags. But I can live with or without them. But back to this suggestion about publicly showing people's earnings? That invites creeps and thieves. Sorry. But there are very bad people on the Internet. They're called “predators”.

@just4him I did not comment, as tempted as I was to tell them "Nunya". My reason for not commenting is I did not want my interaction to cause some earnings and I did not want to encourage that type of post.
