Fast food as compared to a quick meal

We have moved to such a remote location that it is twenty minutes to the closest fast food place. That kind of defeats the idea of eating quickly.
I do like to sometimes have a decent meal without taking a lot of time.
My current version of fast food is to have a baked or microwaved potato and top it with my choices of meat and veggies.
Or taking rice that I prepared ahead of time and doing a stir fry.
Even "junk food" like frozen pizza, or canned soups or hot dogs are quicker to fix than fast food meals around here. You can add extra veggies or other touches to make them tasty.
Oh, and breakfast foods are fast too, like a quick dish of scrambled eggs.
If I can concentrate on these kinds of meals I can save time and money, and maybe even my health.

When I am really hungry and want something fast I scramble eggs. It hits the spot.

Scrambled eggs are a quick and versatile meal. Also much better and cheaper than fast food.

Except for my homemade lasagne my husband will not eat pasta. I will make a huge lasagna and cut it in squares and freeze it. He likes that in his lunch box for work and we get extra meals out of it at home as well.Quick and satisfying meal.

@GardenGerty I also make lasagne and I freeze them in portion. We love pasta as we are both Italian.

I don't know how i would live in a remote location. I am so used to having all the stores so nearby - the nearest is less than a mile and I could get american, Mexican food, Chinese food, all types!.

We have a Mexican place we really like in another town, about forty minutes away. We sometimes shop in that town, so then we eat there. Right now we do not have a favorite Chinese food place.

@GardenGerty That is quite the drive - but when you're in the area, why not right?
Hope you will find a favorite Chinese food place soon!

No matter how close or far ff places are I don't eat that kind of food. I don't mind putting time into preparing meals since I love good food.

Hubby and I both cook. I do love the option of adding my own seasonings. Sometimes if we are busy with a project, we want something fast, but home cooked is better.

there is also the option of those meals that one can mix up, then freeze (not cook). I know places that let you build those and take them home to make later in bulk, so there has to be recipes online I bet

There used to be a place like that near here. You also could have individual meals that were made up from the monthly menu. The owner found it to be too much work for her while going to her kid's activities.

@GardenGerty I did a story on one once back when I worked as a journalist (a job that I often miss), the idea fascinated me.

Eggs can be really filling because of the protein.

@GardenGerty I didn't know that. I knew eggs had protein but didn't know that's why you feel satisfied.

I think when you have time, you can make a pot of soup from the chicken bones or fish bones, and you can freeze the soup to use as base for lunch or dinner.
This is sure to be healthier than canned soup.
it takes one-time effort to prepare the soup and you can use for many meals.

I actually have a container of soup from turkey bones in my freezer now, and more bones to boil.

Where I live we cannot even get delivery. Fast home made food is the best.

There is one place that is fast food where I can get a baked potato and a bowl or cup of chili for an inexpensive price, but it is still thirty minutes or more away.

With the instant soup that I've been eating, it's never a problem to add some veggies on it. except yesterday were I add too many water.

Oh, we do. I think we are back to only eating out on the road or when we go for a reason, like out of town shopping.

Twenty minutes at home is much better than twenty minutes to get there and then waiting a bit for who knows what.

Fast food is not fast when you live a distance away from a fast food restaurant. Good way to deal with this.

Yes, that would be very healthy. But also BORING. I have to have some junk. A hamburger once or twice a week and some sugar or life just isn't worth while. LOL

I never spend more than half an hour cooking (my back starts to hurt) but in that half hour I can make a lot of wonderful dishes many of which can be saved for a second meal.
