Bathroom Torn Apart

Here is a picture of our bathroom, after everything has been removed it is down to the pipework, which has all been ripped out right down to the bare bones and replaced. There is a lot of work, but it will be worth it because later this week we should have a brand new bathroom. This may be a lot of pain, but it will be worthwhile in the end. What home upgrades are you doing in your house this year? In truth houses need constant work, continual upgrades, replacement of the old and adding new parts.

I've seen home renovation shows where they gut bathrooms but the end result is always worth the mess. Hope your project isn't a huge pain and you are in your new bathroom quickly. No renovations for me as I bought a brand new house a few years ago. The only thing I'm thinking of doing is painting

@pgiblett we are having difficulties with finances but what our old house really needs is rewiring top and bottom. I expect a spectacular picture of the new bathroom - golden throne and all

There is so much underneath the bathroom that you have to in order to make it all fit in place.

@pgiblett mainly minor repairs, can't do much right now since my eldest would be graduating college next year so that's our priority, i would be adding more panels to my solar set up and perhaps add another deep cycle battery once i have the funds to lessen our power cost.

@louievill Solar panels and associated batteries is something we want to do in time, in order to take us off the grid.

We had the powder room redone 2 years ago, a new driveway and a new double garage door last summer. There is always something to spend money on.

My last house had become a money pit so I sold and moved to Pennsylvania and bought a new house. Best thing I ever did

@Marilynda1225 Each to their own I guess. Our house was built in 1921, we don't mind adding theses little improvements.

That is why I hate owning a house...if we rent one, it is the land lord's problem. But well...rent saving sort of makes it worth it.

Everything in our house is in shipshape condition. The only thing we have changed is the flooring. We found what we wanted which was not available at the time we had constructed the house.

@allknowing In warm countries like India it is nice to have tiles on the floor, here it is too cold in the winter for that. I like the picture.

@pgiblett Breaking walls and floors in our houses is a bit more complicated, everything is made in concrete. We changed all the tiles when we bought, they will last for at least 30 more years.

The only thing we intend to do is make sure the holes in the roof line are fixed so the squirrels won't get in the attic again. They were horrible this winter.

@pgiblett She said it needed it. She used a spray paint on it at Christmas, but it didn't cover good so she is going to do it again.

Wow, that is a real upgrade! I am slowly painting the spare room, then putting up new curtains. That is a small improvement compared to yours. Next week we are replacing the lino in the kitchen, dining room and entry. But the experts are doing that job for us.

@pgiblett The two spare rooms are the only ones that really needed it so that will hopefully be done within the week. The rest can wait a couple of years I think. We are also slowly finishing the basement. Always something.

My house, HAHAHAHA! I might get a new toilet seat once in a blue moon. I own rental houses and they get the royal treatment so the next bunch of "I don`t care its not mine" can tear it apart. but by law I have to make it NICE. And if they tear it up I PAY more to sue and sometimes I get my money back and most of the time I don`t. The moral of this preaching is " don`t buy rentals and use as a living or your house will suffer."

We had our whole house rewired last Feburary, it was expensive and took 8 days to complete. So happy it's done. My husband is retired so now he is building a bathroom in the basement. He is doing all the work. He is almost done with the plumbing, and then on to the walls. We have almost everything bought but still need the tile for the shower and the floor and the vanity sink to purchase.

We have a shower in the basement which needs fixing in order that it works but no plans to touch that. Our next step is putting in some walls and adding another bathroom.

I am not sure about the living situation right now. I don't want to do any more work on the house until I know for 100% that I will be staying here. I really would like to rip off the old enclosed porch and put in a second bathroom. It would be a huge job as it would be more like an addition being put on as the entire thing has to come down. My daughter needs new windows in her room as well. I look forward to seeing how your bathroom looks when it is all complete. It feels great to have things new and improved in our homes.

Well, I live in an apartment here in CA. Up in Montana, we finally had a new roof put on one of the rooms. I'll keep updating the fence and bridge as necessary. Be sure to take an "after" picture!

I live in a dormitory so no home upgrades for me. My parents did some last year and I think the improvements increased their real property tax, not to mention the costs incurred for the upgrades. Home improvements are indeed costly.
