Could there be a category stating ‘Most liked and commented Response’?

Hi everyone
. In the older version of mylot, there used to a category of ‘best response’ and the host was at liberty to choose best response for his/her discussions. However, no such thing exists in the new version of mylot. I was thinking could there be category – which could indicate the ‘most liked and/or commented response’. In this category those responses could be highlighted which attracted maximum attention from users. I am not sure how much it is practically possible. It is just a thought, which I thought of sharing with all of you. What is your take on this suggestion?

ha ha ha ha ha..............I remember someone used the words 'mind reader' in a discussion for you. Are you trying to be mind reader.
I won't say that my intention to start the post was that users should check my responses
. If any of the response is a quality responses, that should be gone through by the other users, so that they could take a leaf from response.
Nice to see you back.

Hi dpk! Although I do recall this feature, personally, I never liked to pick just one.

It is not about picking best responses. My idea is - there could be some interesting and quality responses to a discussion, which may get maximum likes/comments, there should be a feature to check those quality responses. It is just a thought which I thought of sharing with all of you.
Hope you are doing fine.

@TiarasOceanView - Thanks for appreciating my idea. You will agree that some of the mylotters write quality responses and they are worth reading. My intention is more and more users should read those quality responses.
Nice to know that you are doing fine.

Surely this would be pretty much the same as the "Top Rated" category.
The Best Response was quite an interesting feature and quite popular, but if you think back then you may recall that the feature was abused by a few members who constantly chose a friend's response irrespective of value. This created quite a fair amount of hostility at times, which was no doubt why the admin chose to withdraw it.

@dpk262006 back in those early days I was one of the few members that would give a Best Response to someone who disagreed entirely with me, providing that the response was well written and gave some value to the post.

Yes, there should be a separate category highlighting which of the responses to a discussion got maximum likes/comments.
I made a mention of 'best response' (which was a feature in the previous version of mylot) just to draw attention that there is no similar feature available now. I am not advocating to start the 'best response' feature again.
I agree with you that some mylotters used to misuse the feature and used to award the tag of best response to their friends, irrespective of contents.

@LadyDuck and @ @Porcospino - Thanks for agreeing with me. You both are very right that it will be a kind of motivation for users to write quality responses. Yes, many of the users write very brief response and sometimes their responses are wide off the mark. Some of the users do not understand the crux of a discussion and write wayward responses.

I also think that it might motivate people to write interesting responses. I always read the discussion before I leave a response so that I understand what the person wants to discuss, but some people write very short responses and I get the impression that they didn't read all the details.

I wasn't on old mylot so don't know how that worked there. But yeah I think it would be motivating factor for everyone to give more insightful and informational comment. Even if a funny comment is made and gets most like/responses then everyone would get the fun out of it. So, it's a win-win.

Yes, you are very right that it will be a kind of motivation to write quality responses. Some of the users write only one liners and very brief responses. I agree with you that a humorous or funny comment could get maximum number of likes.

@dpk262006 ..Many do not like disagreement with what they say and that means such people even if they have a valid point there, are likely to be disliked, or at the best never be declared as people offering best responses. lol

I like the idea. It might inspire people to write more than a few words. Some responses are really short. That is okay sometimes, it depends on the topic, but I like to read responses with more details if the topic 'invites' people to write a bit more.

Thanks for agreeing with me. Yes, it will be a kind of inspiration and motivation to write quality responses. I also feel that some responses are really short and they do not contribute much to a discussion.
PS - Nice to see you in my discussion

@Porcospino It means you were busy in off line activities and you did not get much time to be here on mylot. I can understand that off line commitments are also important and mylot could take a back seat.

I don't think I ever really used that feature to find posts, but what I miss is having my friends new posts and replies sent to my inbox. Oh we can get the replies, but not new posts. Now, if a friend creates one and I am not online for a while, many of my other friends will create posts and that one friend's post will be lost.

You are talking about a different kind of problem that you are not able to keep pace with new posts of your friends because you do not receive any message in this regard. I think there are two ways to check your friends posts. First one is to press the 'follow' icon, there you could see drop down menu and posts started by your followers. Second one is (which is bit painstaking) you need to check profile of each and every friend of yours to check their new discussion, when you were offline.
I hope it helps.

@dpk262006 Oh I know how to find my friend's recent posts, with a little work. The problem is, the drop down menu is the one that shows the recent posts (so if friend K create her post a while ago, it could be on page 2 or 3 or more) and the second option I can see a certain friend's post, but with so many friends, I could easily forget about going to friend K's profile.
I know it is different than what you are talking about, but it is the feature I miss the most.

For example, you. You have been my friend since the beginning and I am sure you have created many posts since I last commented on yours, yet it wasn't until today that I saw this in the drop down box. Now imagine the posts I could have commented on if they were sent to my inbox.

Although, it requires efforts to implement this idea, yet if it is implemented users will be encouraged to write quality responses. Sometimes users write very brief responses to a discussion.

@Ishani08 Yes, you are very right sometimes responses seem irrelevant to the discussion or they seem incomplete. It appears that user has just written the response for the sake of it.

I do not think one needs to choose the best response for a discussion. There should be a list which should indicate which response received maximum number of likes and comments. There is no necessity to mark it as the 'best response'.

. If each one of us could see the stats about own page, indicating which of our discussion was viewed most and which of our responses drew maximum likes/views/comment.
