How many discussions SHOULD you start at myLot each day?

I guess technically, you may start as many as you can, since there is no limit. But how many should you start? Well, I guess that depends. Do you actually have something to say/discuss, or are you just telling us what you had to eat, or what your favorite color is, or any of a thousand things that most people really won't bother responding to? If you start 100 discussions, are you really going to make 100 interesting posts, or are you basically just 'spamming'? I like what Alex (GoAskAlice) said to someone..."Just because you can do a thing, doesn't always mean you should do that thing." I might start 5 in one day...and I might start one. Now, I can't speak for everyone else, but when I see 15-20 or more started by one person in the same day, I tend to just start ignoring everything they post. And if you look at those discussions, you'll see that normally, they have very few responses. 25 discussions with 1 or 2 responses each, versus 1 or 2 discussions with 15 or more responses each...pretty sure I am going to go with the smaller amount started, which normally will end up with more back & forth exchanges between people, and make you quite a bit more per discussion (if money is your thing here). But it's up to you...no one is going to stop you from posting 30 discussions a day...but you might want to watch your total number of discussions listed on your profile...most likely, you are going to see a percentage of those discussions deleted, because they really were just generic 'posts'. Just something to think about...

I agree with you 100%. If I see a lot of discussions by one person i am more likely not to read any of them.

I know of some users that have been around for a very long time, and they don't even start an average of one a month...and if/when they do start one, you can bet it's usually worth reading. I've said we each myLot in our own particular way, but you'd be hard pressed to find a 'veteran' user making countless discussions each day (not saying it's impossible to find, but once again, when you look at the activity they receive on them, it isn't much at all).

I've found that if I have more than a couple, I have a hard time keeping up with commenting to the people in them...plus, I feel like I am spamming if I post too many too close together, and that bothers me.

Exactly. It does not make sense. But more often than not, it is like what to write about? Sometimes ideas come in strings, but at other times, ideas don't. Mind is blank. Guess I am simply not one of the creative folks out here..lol

That's right. Presently I don't find something interesting these days. People just discuss about what they did means not what they want to discuss. I am a person who don't start much of the discussions but the present algorithm has motivated me to start more still I am not able to do that.

I do the same thing. I will ignore those that haved postend several discusions in one day, espcially if they aren't all that interesting anyway. I have posted 2 a day already, but they have generated a lot of responses, and still getting them, so you are right. I know that things that I post, not every is interested in responsing too, and that is okay, as we aren't going to like the same things. I am just thankful that I have reaponses to my discussionss. I have at least 30 responses on my discussions, and some have more than that. One, awhile back, got over 70. I guess I am doing something right, but unless I can come up with someting interesting to discuss, I will just not start any. It works much better that way.

Funny how some new myLot members think more is better. What they don't seem to understand is comments should be returned. If you comment on one of my discussions, you can bet I will be doing the same for you... Those who ask to follow me usually never hear from me because "THE STATS" on the newbie's profile page says they have been doing nothing but writing. If their statistics look something like this Discussions 45, Responses 15, Comments 0, mentions 0, likes 0 , and followers 0, Following 300 They should pay better attention on interaction. But some don't.

@JolietJake I think they just want to make discussions without interacting and they think there is already passive income like in Bubblews when their posts get many views and likes. This is my idea why many don't come back anymore.

Yes, there are a few like that, they seem to not have much 'depth' to their 'discussions'. Of course, they are free to use myLot in that manner if they feel that works best for them, but I've seen over the years that those are the people that normally leave after a while...

@vandana7 I'd have difficulty putting up 100 discussions but I think I could put up a lot that may get some interest. My definition of loads is over ten. I've just found a notebook where I wrote possible discussion ideas back to 2009. I think I could put up quite a few in a 12 hour period and keep up with them but it wouldn't be good for me to do that. In 12 hours I've no doubt I could post 100 that are relatively well thought out but keeping up with them and making true discussions is a different matter.

I have been seeing a lot of posts saying what they are having to eat. Some are just that. Some go into more about their day too, which can be interesting. My posts get around 7+ comments. When I get more comments I am delightfully surprised. Not everything you post will get comments. I too tend to pass over posts by someone that has posted many discussions in a day. They lack content and I would rather read something that is fun or interesting. Have a good day JJ! I am off to dodge the raindrops.

I get anywhere from 2 to 70...just depends on what everyone else feels like discussing, I guess. I did find that posting 5 discussions back-to-back didn't gain me anything in the long run, because they only gathered the same total of responses among them combined that I would normally get from just one or two.

I say let them type until their fingers fall off, but probably would be more productive for them and the site if they interacted with other people more. You write that many, probably not paying much attention to what other people are saying and writing.

Although this is good advise, members are going to continue to post what they think is interesting, regardless of how many they put up in a day or how many members actually partake in their discussion. I think that a discussion such as this is a good reminder, not just for the new members, but there are members who will discuss a lot of "thoughts" that cross their minds during any given day. And thankfully, I don't have a lot of thoughts that cross my mind, so I post very rarely, usually daily at the most.

@JolietJake That is right, I have found that when I go to the recent discussions and there are more then 1 by any given member, I will choose just 1 to do, based on the title usually. We can only devote so much time to the site and so much time to each member's work. I can't get over when members post what they are doing or how they are feeling and they do it repeatedly thru a day, and members actually comment on these discussions! That just floors me.

@Juliaacv I believe some people would rather spend time on things that don't require them to do any real thinking, so they gravitate towards discussions such as those. Personally, I have no interest in what they had for breakfast, or hearing about their latest trip to the bathroom or whatever...

I think posting fewer discussions actually gets you more (and better) responses, because you are more likely to make that discussion a bit more interesting.
