I Am Missing My Sunshine

United States

There often are people in our lives who brighten our day and put a smile on our faces. It could be the guy who serves you coffee in the shop on your way to work in the morning who always has a smile and a kind word. It could be the gal who drives the bus on your daily commute who always seems interested in how your day has been. It could be the cashier at the store where you always shop. These people are all little bursts of sunshine, and they make our days brighter and happier with their presence. I am fortunate enough to have many rays of sunshine in my life. One has been missing lately, though, and my life is a little more grey without her. Hopefully, she will be back to her shining self soon, and this place will be just that much brighter and happier. Who is your sunshine, and what makes them special?

When I was little, my aunt used to be my sunshine. We were very close and wouldn't stay away from one another for long. At around age 8, my second brother was born. I fell in love with the cute little baby brother. He became my sunshine too. And six months after his birth, my aunt got married and moved to different city. It was a whole day journey away if you travel by train. LOL I remember we would talk on phone and each time I would ask her to come back. I would give every silly excuse I could to have her come back like I can't do my homework, Daddy doesn't take me out, Mommy doesn't know Maths, I can't sketch. That was the first time I ever threw a temper tantrum. Then I would start crying and so would she... Both of my brothers are my sunshine in one way or another. (Even though they can be quite annoying and so infuriating that I want to strangle them some time..LOL) In my teen years, my best friend Dodo (not her real name) became my sunshine. Now, in MyLot? That is whole another level entirely. when I was a fairly new cookie here, a certain trio would just make my day. Although I appreciated each of them individually, together they rocked! You guess who! Of course slowly I made many new friends and they left their own impressions on me. Like @vandana7, @thesids, @Drosophila, @DaddyEvil, @pgiblett, @just4him . the list goes on... And who could miss @JaboUK 's limericks? And then a special one to be mentioned here seperately would be Dovey ( @VivaLaDani13 ). I always smile when I hear from her. She is my new sunshine.

@Daljinder Awww shucks. I am glad that I was one of those three! Yes, I have been really worried about MysD, because her health has been so poor lately, and it is taking so long for her to recover. It seems that as soon as she has started to mend from one thing, she is hit with another health problem. This is when it is so difficult to be so far from our friends, because I would love to be able to go visit with her if only to take her mind off things for a little while.

The story of your aunt brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye at the same time. It is great that you were so close but sad that she moved away when you were so young. At least you did have your baby brother to be your sunshine in her absence. Yes, our siblings can be a great comfort and joy while also being a great source of stress and annoyance. My sister and I did not always get along, but we were always extremely close. We could be in the middle of the biggest fight ever, but if someone else said anything negative about the other, then they would feel the wrath of both of us. I am not sure who are the trio that made your day when you first started. I am going to guess Mommaj, fishtiger, and Valerie, though. I do agree that the ones you have listed are certainly rays of sunshine.

@purplealabaster Yeah siblings are like that. They are our God given best friends forever (BFF's). The trio I was talking about was Diana ( @mysdianait ) @rebelann and purple flower. I hope Diana gets better soon. She isn't having good days lately. She was sick around Feb 28/29. The whole March has gone by and she is still in recovery phase.

When I was younger, one of mine was the milkman but milk is no longer delivered these days Even postmen are women now over here As you know, I do English conversation at home now and have several people of all ages /from school kids to people a couple of years older than me) and all of them can speak English but some better than others. They come from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday morning and all of them are fun and we converse about different things depending on their knowledge of English and whatever they enjoy talking about from every day personal events to current affairs. There is one though who I am more pleased to see than others and when he rings the doorbell for the last appointment on Thursdays and after I answer says "Good evening", a smile always comes to my face (though he never sees it as I am on the second floor). He speaks very well and uses English for his job. Last year he spent two months working in New York and his goal is to speak like an Englishman by the end of the year. He is annoyed when (not very often) he pronounces something incorrectly and it is fun talking with him as he is an interesting and cultured person. He is a few years younger than my son and sings in a band (in English) and it is through my son that he found me over a year ago. During the week at the shops, the Post Office or in the local coffee bars that I use, there are always people that I am pleased to see and, fortunately, when I am at home in the evenings I can come here and if my purple friend is posting then that will cause a smile too and (under normal circumstances) I will get my skates out to keep up with her

@purplealabaster Yes I do enjoy it and I have met so many new people and made some new friends since I started too. It would be lonely if I had not 'invented' that hobby (rather than 'job'.) You might like to see and hear the young man. Sadly the band fell apart last year but I'm sure he has something else up his sleeve as he is practicising new songs. The skates are drying ready for tomorrow

@mysdianait I will have to try loading that video tomorrow, because it is not working right now. Then again, I am usually not on here on the weekends, though. I like how you refer to it as a hobby rather than a job. I think that definitely fits your description better.

I have heard that many women have enjoyed the milkman, although I am not of that generation. It sounds like you really like your job, which does not surprise me in the least. You are a very nice and social person, so it naturally fits you perfectly. I am sure that you put a smile on the face of the people you are helping, and they look forward to your conversations as well. Reading the description of the gentleman that comes on Thursday has also put a smile on my face, because I can picture him in my mind. LOL - I am glad that some purple friend is also able to put a smile on your face. I can't wait until those skates come back out, too.

Awww . . . I hope your ray of sunshine comes back soon too!! My family is my sunshine . . . the kiddos and Hubby. They have definitely made my life brighter and happier! But in terms of online friends, I do miss one particular friend . . . we used to call each other Sunshine. She told me people used to call her Sunshine as a kid - and then when we discovered we were a lot alike, she called me Sunshine - and I did the same. She actually used to be here, but we didn't get to know each other well until the B site. And then I heard she passed away. I know she wouldn't want people to be sad, so I try to keep that sunshine on . . .

Was it Sid556 that you are talking about? I think that many of us find that our family is our sunshine, and that is a wonderful thing. I know that there are people that do not have that kind of relationship with their family, so I think that those of us that do should appreciate it even more. I was talking about one particular member here, because she reminds me a lot of my sister, and that is what my sister and I used to call each other. Of course, it also helps that her avatar is a big ball of sunshine. However, many of you are rays of sunshine in my life bringing me joy and making me laugh.

@much2say LOL - Yes, the suntan we get from the rays of sunshine around here is indeed the good and healthy kind rather than the kind that causes wrinkles and other skin problems. I did remember our conversation. I am having more problems remembering things these days, and that is very disconcerting to me, because I have always had a fantastic memory. There are some things that I still do remember, though, and that is one of them. I really dislike it that the children distance themselves from us as they grow. I know that it is normal and natural, and I like watching them become their own person, but that still doesn't mean that I have to like the time I am losing with them. Yes, the big ball of sunshine normally has skates. She has not felt up to wearing them lately, but I think that she is slowly working her way up to putting them back on. Maybe we should get her training wheels for them to encourage her.

@purplealabaster Indeed that is who I was talking about - you remember that conversation! As the kids are growing up and beginning to do their own things, oh yes, I am appreciating all the sunshine I can get while I can! Hopefully we will always have the sunshine upon us . Ah, I think I know that big ball of sunshine - and I think she skates when she can . I just love, love, LOVE the rays of sunshine here - I feel the warmth everyday - I think I have a nice healthy suntan from y'all!

@purplealabaster My sunshines are my husband and children. My daughter lives a long way away in Thailand and the sunshine comes when she skypes. She will be home for the summer and then there will be no limit to the sunshine. My son lives near and he brings his own brand of sunshine on his regular visits. He can't do enough for my husband and I. We are very fortunate. It sounds as if you are fortunate too with your family.

@jaboUK That is so wonderful to hear that your children and husband bring you so much sunshine! I love hearing how everybody is describing those that bring them sunshine, and it keeps putting a smile on my face, so you all are bringing me sunshine with your responses. Being away from family is difficult. Skype is a wonderful tool to help with the distance, even though it is not as good as being there with them.

Now as for the cyber world I've met many people who were rays of sunshine on other sites and thankfully some of them migrated here or were already here on mylot then once I began really truckin through this site I've made more friends ..... the sun keeps gettin brighter, don't it? I do miss @TexanTornado very much, and I would love it if she would come back here. I know the name "wetnosedogs", but I did not have a lot of interaction with her. I do know that she has been seriously ill, but I think that she is slowly getting better. I was actually talking about MysD here. She has also been seriously ill, and she is also slowly getting better. She has been sick for quite a while, though, and many of us miss her a lot.

That's a great way to put it. I can remember the "bursts of sunshine" from various phases in my life. Right now, it's two gals and one guy in my class who really seem to enjoy my teaching and ask good questions, the gals at my Thai restaurant who know me well, and a gal I talk to after class (she's not in my class--we started talking because she had a guitar with her) who is from Europe and speaks with me in French and English. Each of these interactions brightens my day.

Thank you. It sounds like you have a lot of rays of sunshine in your day, and that is a wonderful thing. It is also really neat that you have someone who speaks with you in French and English. I would love to be fluent in a foreign language, but I am not that talented. When I used to work outside the home, I had several people who I would see at different places near my work, and they were always rays of sunshine. Some of my co-workers were also rays of sunshine. There are some cashiers and baggers at local stores that are rays of sunshine. There were two particular people in the Deli department who I always would look forward to seeing and wait for them to help me, even if I had to let other people go first before they could get to me. Sadly for me but fortunately for them, they both got promotions, so I don't get to see them anymore.

@purplealabaster, my daughter in the past hasn't enjoyed it, She got dropped off at the lake a week ago and started catching fish, she actually asked to go several times this weekend. She caught 15 in a few ours on Sunday and I'm guessing she is going to be hooked on it for a bit. My older children went back and forth with fishing, when they were little the enjoyed it and when they got to be a bit older they disliked it very much, then they got to be adults and they are back to enjoying it. I personally love whether I'm catching fish or not, if I'm not then it's perfect for relaxing with a good excuse.

@beaniefanatic13 Yeah, both my girls have short attention spans and get bored easily when there is not much happening (I think that is a pretty typical, though, especially with children), which is why neither have liked fishing very much. My youngest did catch a fish (she was the only one to catch one), and that was exciting for a minute. After she was done admiring it, released it and bragged about it for another minute, she was also done fishing.

I really enjoy people who tend to brighten other people's day with just a smile and their presence. I think that they are very special people, and I wish that there were more of them around these days. I used to like fishing. I am not so much into it any more, but as my daughter is getting older we are trying to introduce her to it to see whether or not she will like it. Her father loves it and is hoping that she will, too. I do not think so, but I am encouraging her anyway.

@moffittjc Isn't it funny how that happened. I wonder whether or not your daughter will admit that she was after she matures a little. My oldest insisted that she was never a typical teenager, either. Now that she is past that stage by a couple years, she looks back and laughs admitting that she most certainly was your typical hormonal teenager. At least we both made it through. In several years, her and I can help each other out, because my youngest and her oldest will be teenagers together.

Oh, that is so sweet that you and your husband had that song! It is also wonderful that he is still your sunshine. Obviously that is how all marriages should be, but unfortunately that is not always how it happens, so I love hearing about all the ones where that still holds true after many years! My sister used to sing "You Are My Sunshine" to me all the time, and she would also call me Sunshine sometimes. I sing that song to my children, too. I used to know that it was going to be a good day when my sister would call and I would hear the bright smile in her voice as she said "Good morning, Sunshine".
