Demoted to my laptop

I have been gradually removing everything from my bedrooms in preparation for the laminate flooring being fitted. I began by moving most of the furniture and also disconnected all the equipment connected to my desktop computer. Now I have finally disconnected and moved the computer itself. Fortunately I do have a laptop, so I am able to remain online until the desktop is reassembled. This should prove to be an interesting task because I have a great number of cables that were connecting various systems. The audio card alone has 3 mini jacks, each of which carries a different channel. Of course with furniture heaped everywhere there is no practical place to put the laptop, so I will have to use it as the names implies and sit it on my lap.

It is at the moment because I am seriously short of space. As a general rule I use my laptop while away from home and use it on a table or desk.

@ridingbet I find netbooks to be too small for my comfort.

I use my iPad as you use your laptop, and I use my laptop as you use your desktop. I don't have a desktop computer anymore. I have not since 1997. I like the portability of the laptop and that it takes up far less room on my desk.

I also like the portability of a laptop, but there are benefits to a desktop.

@ElizabethWallace A desktop is far easier to repair or upgrade because the tower is designed to be easily accessible. Replacing a component or adding a new one is a simple job, whereas laptops are less accessible.

My laptop is always a good alternative if I am unable to use the desktop computer for a while.

At least once the rooms are done you shouldn't have to move anything anymore unless you want to rearrange the rooms differently. Moving a computer and desk and related items around is difficult. I hate it when I have to take my tower to my computer guy. It's a hassle remembering where everything gets plugged back in. I've even taken a picture of it before to help me out.

Everything has been dissembled and stacked downstairs, so it will be a long job refitting everything.

@Asylum It's a long job even when just one item is removed, like the tower that everything else attaches to. I have difficulty just when moving my computer table from one wall to another. Have fun with reassembling you have in store for you.

Hope that flooring doesn't take to long to install and your life can get back to normal. I don't have a laptop I so much prefer my desktop.

@fishtiger58 I fully agree, a mobile phone screen is far too small to be practical.

@Asylum They do, I can go online on my phone too, but that's just absurd to me.

Laptops certainly are convenient. I have even used mine out on the porch. Never had a desktop at home but have used them on the job. Bet you will be glad when all is back to normal and with a nice new floor.

I hate laptops, those keyboards and that stupid pad always give me so much trouble. So they got there and have started the work on your floor?

I do not use the touchpad because I have a wireless mouse for the laptop. No, they are due in the morning so I am clearing everything in preparation.

Mine sits on my lap too, on a lap table. I put a book under the top end and that stops it over-heating. You would think that someone would have come up with an alternative to all these cables and wires we have to have nowadays, wouldn't you?

Many cables have been eliminated, although direct cable connection often increases stability and performance.

I hope they get your flooring done with no more delays and you can reassemble your rooms & life can get back to normal. Isn't it frustrating having everything all over the place

It is nightmare at the moment and it will take quite some time to return everything and reassemble the computer. However, at least I can clean everything methodically in the process.
