'Just Be Yourself'

I'm sure most of us have heard that saying, or some variation of it, before. Basically it is saying 'Don't pretend.' Don't fake things. Be real. But is this always sage advice? What if, for example, you are me? Now, I am normally a pretty sarcastic sumbeach, and I am known for saying what I think, the devil take the hindmost, and if it hurts, well, there could possibly be a reason for that. I've been known for introducing myself as the nicest as***le you'll ever meet. And I don't say that sarcastically. Now, some people will say "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". But if I don't say anything at all, I am not being me...therefore, I am not being myself. Do you see where I am going with this? It makes life hard at times. For instance, there is a particular discussion right now (we won't mention which one) and I really want to say something there. It is almost custom-made for me. But I am not saying anything. Instead of being myself, I am being someone else. Now, I know several people have an aversion to my style; that's fine, I am not attempting to win any popularity contests. But I also know lots of people would like to say many of the things I do, but don't, because "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". And they are being themselves. Me? For once, I am not going to say anything...no matter how much it hurts. But I do seriously wonder why they didn't see it coming...

Being yourself is a good thing! Most of us are used to you so it will only sting for a moment or two.

We are what we are. If you don´t like me, go elsewhere. Here we find many sorts of people. But still here we can choose our friends. Don´t worry. Not that I can see you worrying over this

We should be ourselves. Being anyone else is fake. We should be allowed to be ourselves. Sometimes people won't like what we say or do but that shouldn't stop us from being who we are.

Always be yourself. If no one likes it, then they have no reason to talk to you.

You are actually popular JJ Well I guess if you can accept all the bashing that you'll get if you will be yourself, then go ahead be yourself. I will still be your fan Though for me, there should always be a less painful way of saying what you want to say. Filter. Try to be diplomatic. If you keep on practicing this, this will become your new self.

There is really no diplomatic way to say it. It's just one of those situations that occur occasionally.

I think there is, well often, a way to say the same thing, but be polite about it. Not always, but often.

I seem to be missing a lot of the fun here. I think I am often myself. I guess I need to go look for a discussion where you are not and see what is happening.

You are who you are, and that's that. Those who really love you will stick around. Those who don't understand or whatever should just go find someone else to talk to.

A year later I can finally say what it was...someone was complaining they got ripped off by a website...they also claimed they were a psychic...I wanted to know why they didn't see ahead of time they were going to be ripped off

Be yourself - It is who we really are when we let fall to the floor the cloak of other people’s stuff that we have taken on

It'd be nice if you used your own words instead of a quote for a response
