Required reading for ALL members of myLot (yes, even me)

I see lots of posts that tell me people haven't read these, and really, they should. Especially if you are a new user or a returning old user - but even if you have been here for quite a spell, you really need to stay familiar with these sections. They include: *myLot Community Guidelines (revised July 18, 2015) *Earnings Program FAQ (revised July 18, 2015) *Terms of Use Agreement *Privacy Policy I constantly see things posted that really either shouldn't be posted, or are misinformation due to not being familiar with what is written in these sections. I know, I know....'rules are for fools' and reading is a pain in the ass...but there is a reason these sections exist, and they may answer things like why your 'discussion' got deleted, or why you think your bank isn't tallying up to everything you have written (especially that, since you are not paid for what you write). But do yourself (and everyone else here) a favor, and read these...and if you've read them before, read them again anyway...a 'refresher' course never hurt anyone.
Have questions about myLot? Help is here!

I keep reading them every so often. On the question below of junk posts, who determines what is junk? Is there a set definition or is it junk if someone does not like it or agree with it?

@JolietJake Okay, I see a lot of that especially with new members from parts unknown. Or other vague statements like Religion, comment please.

I myself consider it 'junk' if it say 'Goodnight, I am going to sleep now' or something to that effect that really merits nothing to be discussed

Yes, it is good to keep refreshing these guidelines. It keeps you on your toes and makes you write all that more clearly.

I never sign up to a new site without reading all that information first. Sometimes I can't help feeling that I'm in the minority.

@JolietJake I haven't often noticed that happening here, but it was a very common occurrence at Bubblews. Then again, I got the distinct impression that many Bubblews members couldn't understand English well enough to read the rules.

There is one item in the community guidelines that I find somewhat contradictory. I realize we have members from all over the world and for many of them English is not their first language. I also see that we are not to criticize their mistakes or point out their errors. But the guideline also states that we who are English literate should help out those who come here to improve their English. How are we to do this if we are not only forbidden from suggesting improvements, but are viciously attacked and vilified by other members if we dare to do so?

@JolietJake I tried that on one post, explained I was an English teacher, and recommended some edits that might make their nearly incomprehensible post more readable. I didn't call it that in my comment. I was fussed out by the author and several others and told it was against the rules to ever correct anyone's English on the site.

@DWDavis Refer them to the guidelines. It states 'criticize', it says nothing about not trying to help someone that doesn't use English as their primary language. If they are still jerks, call me.

This is the link that I usually post as a comment to MANY users (not only newbies). I do not understand why people do not navigate the menus. The Help has been the first section that I have read, the day I joined.

I did not even think of that. I was on here a while back and i read them then. But once i come back i did not read them again. As far as i know i do not do nothing aginst the rules but it is like you said it does not hurt to make sure by reading them over again. Thanks for reminding me.

@JolietJake That is a really good idea. It helps you out really. If they change something. Lets just say they say that you can no longer say "no" and then you do then there your time is gone from here all due to you not reading things.

The rules are basic common sense and essentially the same as those found on other sites. You are right to refresh once in awhile when pondering.

I see some returning members from way back when that think the payment structure is the same (which it is the opposite of what it once was) and lots of 'junk' posts that really don't belong here but maybe on Yahoo Answers or a trivia game site...not to mention the plagiarists as Abby pointed out earlier his morning.

The way I understand it, not just on this site but on any site, the guidelines and rules can be changed at any time, and the site is not required to let us know about the changes, we are responsible to keep up ourself. It is a good idea to periodically review, in case we missed something the first or even the fifteenth time we read it.

Very true, they can be altered at any time without us knowing unless we are diligent about checking them

I didn't know rules are for fools. I actually think the rules or guidelines in mylot are quite easy to read, unlike some other sites. I also like they include the date of revision, so we know whether there are any updates to the guides since we last read. Thanks for the reminder, I think we should just go and read once now.

I read them every time I have a question but you are preaching to the choir. Somehow everyone should have to read them before they are allowed on the site. Can't that be done?

@JolietJake You would think if someone is new that is what they would want to know. It makes no sense to me but I see it daily.

One of the guidelines and I quote, "Posting personal milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc. - This is best celebrated via private messaging with your friends." This what I read. So this is prohibited. But I have seen some who posted about these. Any thoughts @JolietJake ?

I believe Alex has stated that if it is a mention as part of a wider discussion it is okay, as long as there is something mentioned beside the birthday.anniversary/whatever
