My gum feels so much better, almost no pain at all. Dentist said not to chew on that side for two days, other than that I'm good!
We left for our mini-vacation and got 15 minutes from home on a two lane road we ran into dead stopped traffic. All kinds of flashing lights and no one was going anywhere. I just happened to have a road map of that county in the glove box. Since we were 1,000 feet from a side road we sneaked up the shoulder (others did also) and took that turn off. We twisted and turned through the countryside hoping I was reading the map correctly! I was and we made it back out to the original road far enough away from the accident scene.
It sorta takes the wind out of your sails when you see the emergency vehicles and all the flashing lights. I am not the best passenger to begin with so it took a while for my nerves to calm down enough to relax and enjoy the the next two hours of the ride.
The cabin owner says check-in is 4:00. We got here at 3:00 and I checked to make sure it was clean and it was so we moved in. We had an early dinner and now my husband and Ruby are both sound asleep.
Me, I am learning how to use my laptop w/o the aid of a mouse - I left it at home. I have never not used a mouse so this is a new experience and I'm making all kinds of errors!
Tomorrow will be a better day and warmer - it's chilly and well below normal temps. But even with the clouds the Smoky Mountains are beautiful!
Sorry there is no photo but with everything going on I'm lucky I know my own name!

We stayed here in the fall and since we're return customers we got a nice discount.

@sallypup Since we have the dog with us and we stay several days we always book a rental cabin. Then we have no noise from the neighbors. We stayed at the same rental in the fall and we got a nice discount. You are fairly close to Canada right?

@AbbyGreenhill Sweet. I'm still working on booking all the motels that we'll need when we go on our Canada trip next month.

These side roads were all country road with not much to see, but at least I know how to read a map. We lived here a few years when we first moved to TN, so it's like old home week we we come to visit.

@AbbyGreenhill I am glad that you were able to check in earlier, it's nice to relax after driving in the traffic.

@LadyDuck I am getting to the point I hate going in the car more than 30 minutes. So many accidents that all I think about.

We were really happy the cabin was ready for us...last time the cleaning people had not been here and we had to wait quite a while before we could get in...this time it was smooth sailing - check in was 4, we got here at 3 and it was ready so we moved in.

I am getting better at it. I was going to go buy a mouse but I think I can live like this until we get home.

@AbbyGreenhill it really depends on how much you use and what you use, some things are doable with a mouse, some things would get really old really fast

I have used a wireless mouse for so long, this was a shock trying to figure out how to do things, but after practicing I think I have it to a point I can live with it like this for a few days. I write for a blog and if I can get that done and published I'm home free.

@AbbyGreenhill Good luck with the blog. Mostly these things are just a matter of getting used to stuff and adjusting to it.

I think I have this under control. Last time I forgot my mouse I bought a new one and it was lucky in the end since the new one was better than the one I forgot.

@miniam We hear more birds at home than here...this cabin is in a resort, so they are one on top of another but it's quiet - last week was the big time in Pigeon Forge since it was the Dollywood parade and Dolly Parton was in town...we purposely avoided coming that week.

Sounds exciting. I passed a bad accident on the way home one time a few years ago The authorities had put sheets over areas and I think it was a horrible one. Poor people. Going to fast and drinking I will wager. Hope you enjoy your vacation.

@AbbyGreenhill .......Some do take way too much risk that is for sure. Driving rules are made for a reason.

@celticeagle My husband goes 2 miles over the speed limit. We take that road about 3 times a week and it never fails at least two cars pass us in a curve.

since it was 12:30 pm I would guess speeding and it was in a curve.....they drive so bad, pass on double yellow lines. I don't see anything about it in the news.
