How many people use myLot? The real numbers...

I've seen a few people asking how many of 'us' (myLot members) there are, and myself and a friend have tossed a few numbers out there about it, and used some data from the friendly Bug Guy to back up what we thought. Of course, the numbers were a few months old, but we figured they were close enough for government work. But then, I posted about SharonBucks the other day, and the amazing number of people she 'follows' (over 886,000) and in responses to that discussion, someone nudged my memory a bit, and I remembered that myLot had a 'population' figure of only slightly over 251,000 members when they used to publish the number on the old 'home page'. So how, I wondered, could someone follow 886,000 users if there were only 251,000? (To make it even a bit more complicated, SharonBucks had over 922,000 'friends' in the old version) So I asked ol' Bugsy yesterday if he could tell me the REAL numbers for myLot. And here they are, provided by myLotBugs: Including all signups, there are 1,407,793 users total . This is everyone that has ever signed up, including several hundred thousand that did nothing after they signed up. There are 280,319 users with a rating of at least (1), meaning they did something besides just sign up (which is where the old population figure came from...it only counted users that had actually done something.) Since the 'revamped' myLot came out in August 2015, there have been: 44,693 new users have signed up. Of those, 3,367 became new, active users (making at least some type of post) There have been 7,032 active users total (this includes those returning users who signed up before August) So a 'population' figure for here would now read 7,032. Not huge...but the 280,000 population would have been for 10 years total on this site, and 7 thousand active users since this past August is still respectable. So there you have it, for those that were curious...

Interesting information (and nice to have the 'official' figures. However, according to MLB's comment of about the middle of March, quite a lot less than 10% of that 7,032 are at all active. Of course, MyLot is not everyone's cup of tea and I suspect that a lot of people sign up hoping to make ridiculous amounts of money (such as $10 a day or more). The other thing that occurs to me is that it looks very much as though users who have actually been 'banned' (that is locked out and deleted from public view) are being counted. Each of those will have made at least one post, of course (which will have been the criterion for banning them).

@JolietJake that's right... it makes 'closed' accounts as if they're not really 'closed'... for sometime after you changed over to JJ I thought you had 2 active accounts going at the same time while I was also certain you'd know better than to do that...

True, they are not active daily, or even monthly for that matter, but that is how many have used the site since August (including members that had their accounts 'closed')

Kind of interesting in a way...ol' PhredWreck can't be found doing a user search, but if you stumble across an old post, you can still view 'his' profile.

Thank you for that! 7k active users is actually a lot bigger number than what I had in mind before. And it's made up of roughly half new and half returning users...

Interesting stats. A member who has posted 1 comment last August and nothing since, cannot be considered like an active member today, and the number is certainly less than 7000. It would be interesting to have an average monthly activity : how many members were active in August/September/etc.

@JolietJake Thank you very much, I missed completely this discussion. Then, we have approximately 700 active members/month. It is not bad.

@JolietJake but it's still way below 7 thousand, i think. what is the more realistic number? a hundred, two hundred? I think just something like that.

Because not all of those people post all the time, and some have gotten banned since they joined, etc...

Sharon used to offer tasks on the old myLot site that many users did, back then we were informed by email when friends started new discussions and things.

You belong to the 44 thousand that have signed up since August, and the 3,300 of those that are active.

Now just think how busy we would be if each of us posted at least one post to discuss per day.

Wow, good investigative skills. This is really interesting to hear of. What exactly is this "rating" system (you say something about how many people have ratings above 1...)? It's interesting to see there are so many members yet so few "regular" members.

You take a 'myLot users machine' and insert the numbers into this end of it and look at what comes out of that end

That is a lot of math. But I do believe that I am part of that 3,367 because I'm new and I'm active. What do you think?

Thanks for breaking that down. I wondered how many users there were. I know some people followed me and I never heard from them again, so I took the liberty of unfollowing them. I can always follow again if they suddenly come alive on the site.

That's a nice information. I hope the site can have the members' counter. I do think that there are so many mylotters in the old version as compared today.

I was wondering about that @JolietJake . What I don't understand is why people sign up and then never do anything. That just doesn't make sense.
