With so much bad news lately, tornadoes and homes destroyed, a child injured at the zoo and a rare gorilla killed; and a murder-suicide at UCLA, I went looking for this video on YouTube. I saw a thirteen year old girl on America’s Got Talent last night. She made me smile and cry happy tears.
Here is your antidote for bad news, Laura Bretan proving that there is still happiness and light in the world, if you just look for it.
Simon Cowell never stands for anyone. Watch it to the end.
Can you share anything wonderful and happy with us all? We need it.
A young opera singer stuns the crowd and earns Season 11's first Golden Buzzer. See Laura Bretan's amazing audition. » Get The America's Got Talent App: http...

That's great! There was a little ten year old on Ellen yesterday that is a president expert. She is cute.

@ElizabethWallace ...I think it helps to have stay at home moms who spend time with these kids, find their talents and work with them on these things every day.

I sure wonder where talent like this comes from, sure religious people say it is a gift from God, but if so, why this kid and why this talent? It's fascinating.

@celticeagle That might be true. They sure need someone to support their interests.

And such maturity when she is singing, and back to being a kid when she is not.

Sure, that's the route most go. But giving a few a leg up is another route. Most contestants go back to the bars and cafes after being on these shows. This girl, however, will not.

@TheHorse Why,? There are only a few shows like this, and only one wins in each. Everyone else pretty much does it the hard way.

This is so true, not just singers, but others as well. When I see innate talent in any field, the little hairs on my arms stand up.

As a voice teacher, I have to say that while she is talented, the rep was inappropriate for her age and gender--there is a reason that opera is sung by older, more developed bodies. The muscles in the larynx cannot withstand the pressure that operatic literature requires. If you look at the video, you can see how her body is trying to cope with the pressure. Her jaw shakes and her tongue is retracted. All of this is bad news for a young singer.
That being said, if she stops singing that rep and lets her instrument develop properly, the results could be stunning.
We exploit these children for the "wow" factor and it is just so very wrong.
Sorry to be such a downer about this, but it is rapidly becoming a problem and these children are too young to know the downside

This was very nice for her. The Golden Buzzer is really a good thing-love that they do this.
