Time to look for a holiday

Where to go?

Today I received my next appointment date for the eye hospital, which is late July. This is precisely what I had been waiting for because now I know when I shall be free to travel. I do have a doctor’s appointment on 13th July, but that still gives me adequate time to take a week away somewhere. Now I shall be avidly searching for a holiday, but I am not sure where to consider this time. My favourite destination of recent months was Turkey, but that seems to be becoming a little dubious of late. So far I have been considering either the Canary Islands or Balearic Islands. I shall certainly make a definite choice by tomorrow.

I have read your most recent post first and I already know where you are going. I will remember the day of your doctor's appointment, it's the day of my niece birthday.

Both places can be so hot at this time of the year,Are you not someone who makes local holidays? I know it will be cheaper going to balearic islands, l like Spain in general apart from the heat.

I have previously visited two of the Balearic Islands and three of the Canary Islands, so I do appreciate how hot they can be. I love Spain myself, but the mainland is unrealistic expensive at this time of year. I do not mind paying for what I get, but do refuse to pay the extortionately inflated prices in some resorts.

@Asylum Totally agree,Barcelona and other major cities are unrealistically expensive in the peak seasons(only been to Barcelone and Madrid) then the islands. But you can save on flights, book on time and im sure you can get a real deal.Flew with easyjet Geneva-Palms for $27

@miniam There are some offers of around £42 to Palma by Thonsonfly, but they want another £48 to take a suitcase. It is ridiculous that a suitcase is dearer than a passenger.

One looks awfully small. Wouldn't be less apt to have wifi?

You must be excited for your holiday. Good for you to have the time to relax and chill in another place. We really need it especially after many days of hard work.

How can you turn your back on the Greek mainland Barry? I feel snubbed. You really should consider venturing into the Mani.

It is not an area that is fed much by the airlines from Manchester, which would result in a difficult journey. Anyway, I know that you would not want to share your beloved mosquitoes.

@thea09 I will have to look at the available flights, but they are unlikely to be from North England. If course my next holiday could be weeks away.

@Asylum I'd be delighted to share the mossies with you. I was under the impression that they had laid on a lot more flights to our local airport of Kalamata - famous for arresting train spotters. Maybe you could look for your next long overdue holiday.

Yes, I have been to Palma before, but it was a long time ago. I like Majorca although the language can be difficult. It is not actual Spanish and seems quite unique.

The Maldives would be a very worthwhile destination, but due to the timing of medical appointments I will only be taking a one week holiday. Maldives would be too far for such a short period, especially since I would be unable to fly direct and would need to change flights.

Yes I agree and have been to all three main Canary Islands, although they are a four and a half hour flight. I also like the Balearic Islands, which are about two hours less.
