I thought I broke the new tractor

We have 5 hours on the new tractor - no need to mow the grass if it isn't growing. Now that we have had rain it is growing again. After we got out of the pool earlier I told my husband I wanted to mow - my first turn on the new toy. He got it ready for me and showed me a few things that are a little different from our previous model. It took me about 2 minutes to get comfortable with it and after that I was flying through the yard. I did about 3 acres and all of a sudden it died out front near the road. My husband was in the backyard in his hammock (his office) which is a good 500 feet from where I was. Ruby was watching me behind the fence. I tried starting it and no luck. I kept telling Ruby, "Go get pop." - he had heard the tractor shut off and came out in the golf cart, with a can of gas. He always fills the gas tank when he finishes mowing so he was sure it wasn't empty. It took a little gas but not much. He finally got it going and he finished up the little bit that was left. Then he went in the back near the pond and the machine did all kinds of stalling and stammering. Conclusion is the fuel pump is defective. He said he had a problem like that on a previous machine. So he will call the place we bought it from, make sure they have a fuel pump and we'll take it up there - it is under warranty so Cub Cadet has to fix it. The good news is - I didn't break it!

Did your husband immediately blame you? This used to happen in our house until Vince was proved wrong so often he stopped automatically thinking I'd done something to 'break' whatever.

Nope - he knows better - he said he heard it shut off an thought, "oh no"...I've got 15 years experience on our tractors so he knows better!

It has a long long warranty - like 5 years for most parts and even longer for others.

@AbbyGreenhill That is very good. You guys have had problems on other stuff lately too (but luckily still there is warranty)!

I am glad it's not broken, but it's annoying to have to bring it back.

@AbbyGreenhill When we buy something new it's very annoying to find that there is a problem.

Annoying since it's an hour each way and then sitting there waiting for it to be fixed.

You just stalled the poor thing. Over working it probably. LOL It wasn't used to your handling perhaps.

No, not my fault or how I used it - it's meant to be run for hours and hours...needs new fuel pump. Believe me if it was my 'fault' I would have heard about it.

Sounds like it was more about "hot rodding" on the lawn than mowing!

I don't hot rod, people get seriously injured on those things. I like all my parts to stay attached.

Good news, you could have felt bad had you broken a tractor that is less than 3 months old.
