A Year of MyLotting - Some Personal Statistics

MyLot has been running in its new, paying guise for a year now. I received my first earnings (of $0.0015, a fraction of a cent) on July 9th 2015, so I thought it would be interesting for some to see a few statistics. I apologise in advance to those for whom, like me, the earnings are secondary. I may post again about the highlights and ‘social’ aspects of MyLot over the year, if I get the time.
First of all, I don’t claim to be as active as some here. I have been on the site almost every day, however, and have responded and commented in several discussions most days but I have only posted discussions on 93 days. Everyone will be different and I am certainly not ‘average’ or by any means the most active or the highest earner.
I have posted 101 discussions (not including this one) and, on average, my discussions have had 26.6 responses and 27.3 likes (counting the number of comments was too much work!). The least number of responses a discussion received was 8 and the most was 70. I have noticed that the number of responses has been particularly good when friends have ‘suggested’ my discussions to their followers, so, if you want to help your friends, DO use the ‘suggest’ button to recommend interesting discussions to your followers! Perhaps they will do the same for you, if your discussions merit it.
On the 93 days on which I posted discussions, I earned an average of $0.3324 per day, while on the days when I posted no discussions, my average daily earnings were $0.1280. The most I have earned in a day was a very satisfactory $1.45!
It isn’t possible to draw any conclusions from this about how much a response is ‘worth’ and it would be dangerous to do so because (a) the ‘life’ of a discussion may be - and, indeed, should be - more than just the day on which it was posted and (b) interaction with responses and comments also earns. It does, however, show that it is well worth your while posting discussions which attract a good number of responses as well as responding and commenting conscientiously.

This is a good and detailed analysis. I joined the 17th of August 2015 and my first earning on that day has been $0.0128. I think that this was my lowest daily earning, the highest was a $2.1428 in October. I think it would be interesting to enter my data and check.

This may seem bizarre, but I actually run a spreadsheet to monitor my earnings here. This is not due to any passion for the earnings, more that I enjoy creating spreadsheets.
I have noticed one clear difference with Mylot today compared with the old MyLot. In the old days I cashed out every other month, whereas with the current format I only fell short of $10 once.

I'm a spreadsheet nerd, too. I know that I have a spreadsheet of my earnings here from October 2006 but it's probably on a drive which is waiting to be 'rescued'. I, too, used to cash out about once every other month. My impression is that my activity here is a little less than what it was previously and I haven't reached the minimum quite every month so far.

I'm not currently making that sort of money on days I post discussions, but I've only been active again about two weeks (and most of my discussions have far less responses). I would have expected that more activity would earn more money. Interesting stats.
Hadn't actually seen the suggest button.

The more activity your discussions, responses and comments receive in the way of responses, comments, likes, views &c, the more you will earn. Nothing that you do actually earns directly, though, of course, if you post nothing, then nobody can interact with you!

I don't pay much attention on stats. I fly the seat of my pants in all regards! If I tried to figure out what every thing was wroth it would not longer be fun..it would be 'work'. You didn't mention your most important stat - how many people you have helped here - you are a store house of information that helps all of us.

It would be nice if we could measure and acknowledge that.

Awesome work collating and sharing the data that you have.
Never earned more than a dollar here in myLot.
Good job! Looking forward to reading the 'highlights' and social aspects of your myLotting.
Good idea about suggesting other people's post. I have not done it myself but I'll do it starting with your post.

@allen0187 Yes, if you have a LOT of followers, suggesting does become a bit of a pain! I am currently slowly trying to reduce the number of my followers to manageable levels. There are MANY who are no longer active (from long ago before 2013, when 'Friends' were changed into 'Followed' and 'Followers'). It's a convoluted process: you have to visit each profile in turn and, if they are no longer active, 'Block', refresh and then 'Unblock' each one individually to remove them from the 'Followers' list.

@owlwings glad I had that positive effect on you. Didn't know that suggesting posts could be so time-consuming.

This is a very detailed explanation of the digits that you acquire in your stay here in Mylot. I haven't done that so far. I think that everything we have been doing here in mylot counts even the post that was not able to get any responses at all.

It's easy enough to gather and enter the figures I have done into a spreadsheet. It would be far more difficult to calculate the complete activity on a discussion because I would have to open each discussion and count the comments (responses and likes are displayed on the profile). What I wanted to do was to give people a rough idea of how my own results look and to answer one or two questions which often come up.

I wonder if you could do linear regression between the dependent variables and independent variables!

I have no doubt that I could, if I thought about it, (presumably, you mean to find a correlation between the number of responses/likes and the amount earned) but, as I explained, the data I have is incomplete in that there are too many unknown variables (earnings from responses and comments on other discussions) for an analysis of that sort to be of any value.

@Drosophila I have no doubt that, if all the data were available, there would be a correlation (after all, the earnings program is a logical program which works according to rules which only it and its programmer/author are party to). Whether the deductions made from such an exercise would be useful is another matter. Mind you, I fully realise that whether the statistics I produced above are useful or even interesting is very debatable!

@owlwings indeed, a correlation between dependent variables such as received response back & cents earned, and that of independent variables such as the time of comment/response. It would be exciting to see if there are any correlations.

I think that I've only done so once and that was due to a combination of circumstances which may never be repeated - rather few active members and a particularly high rate in the early days of the earnings program. Some people do manage it but I'm quite happy if I get 25 or 30 cents on days when I post a discussion!

@Inlemay It's almost impossible to see what a single discussion earns because one is generally responding and commenting to other discussions and people are commenting on your responses and comments, which all complicates the issue, of course. I like the way that earnings are now updated at intervals throughout the day (the old myLot used to calculate earnings just once a day), though I actually rarely look at the earnings more than once a day, when I record them. It gives some people a sense of 'progress', however.

This is certainly one of those discussions you mentioned with a life beyond one day - about six weeks so far! Thank you for the very useful analysis.

It suddenly got revived for some reason, as can happen from time to time. Perhaps it's time for another 'stats' post. I've been playing with my spreadsheets and have come up with an interesting ' Daily Activity Index' figure (for the site as a whole), which may or may not be of interest.

MyLot is a discussion site rather than an 'article posting' site. The secret here, at least, is to be as 'social' as you can by responding to and commenting on other people's discussions. That way, they see what you have written, hopefully like it and are encouraged to go looking for more that you have posted. If you have some good discussions up your sleeve, then people are likely to respond more readily.
If you haven't already done so, look under "Help" in the menu under your username/avatar (it may help somewhat, by the way, if you dispense with the default 'little green shouty man'). The Community Guidelines may help you avoid some of the commonest mistakes and the Earnings Program FAQs will tell you how the earnings work.

It is interesting to look back, but I would suppose the statistics will vary from one person to the next.

I would expect everyone to be different, of course. I tend to treat the earnings rather like points in a game. The actual money is more or less peanuts (though, counting up what I've earned from MyLot over 10 years, shows me that it has theoretically bought me this nice laptop I'm using!)

Hi! I have been inactive for quite some time. I am glad to know that you are able to earn such amount in a day. I know there have been a lot of changes lately with myLot and I have to update myself. I would agree that we should consider having quality posts that would be helpful to others and being active would be the key to generate some good earnings. Have a great day!

It actually only took about a year! Seriously, though, I have been entering my figures into a spreadsheet every day, which takes, say 30 seconds each day. The rest only involved using a filter and the handy tools provided, which took me maybe a couple of minutes ... so, yes, about 30 hours, if you add it all up! WOW!

I earn a lot less than before but I do like the new payment set up.
A bit annoying on old mylot where someone could churn out lots of rubbish and earn relatively well.
I don''t pay attention to earnings but I've looked back and can see big earnings spikes when I've written my own discussion.

I don't know how much help it will be but, at least, people should know what is possible with only moderate effort.

It would just be for my own amusement - anyway, I do write things other than limericks
