The death of the writing site

As time goes on, I notice one after the other, many writing sites are closing. I wrote on the Examiner for years, and, like many others, was sent an email warning they would be closing in a short while. No real reason was given but it was quite a shock. That makes the third site I've written on that has closed. I wasn't part of the Squidoo fallout but was on Helium and of course, Bubblews. I'm sure these sites have a good inkling they will be closing but choose not to warn people in advance. Probably because many would leave and they want to squeeze the last bit of money out of it. It's scary though when you don't know what will happen. Which ones of you have been caught unawares, like myself? Which good sites other than myLot are still up and running? Pixabay free photo

I do not know of any sites that are for original writing like myLot, it is unique. Textbroker is up and quite healthy it seems. It is ghost writing though, not original thought. I was caught by bubblews, but had seen the writing on the wall as it was unsustainable. I was a member of Gather, Sidetick, and a few others that have just become blurs.

Its true that they can all blend together and its hard to remember them individually- I feel there are few good ones left and that they will all go out one day.

@marlina No and you have to be smart not to lose money as some people go crazy and push to the limits!

I have been on even more sites that have closed. I was on Squidoo, Bubblews, Persona Paper and I also tried another, but I knew it was not a good site, it was just an experiment.

@MarymargII They do not pay anymore, they are still opened to allow people to save the articles they wrote there.

It is true. It does seem like a lot of writing websites are closing. It's kind of sad to see.

@MarymargII I don't think so either. Hopefully more will come.

@dodo19 Yes, and hopefully they'll plan their strategies a bit better!

I've only ever been on Bubblews before this - one site at a time is all I can manage.

@jabo Well many PPV places have now gone out- and it is a slow-moving epidemic Smart Administration is the key and many don't have it!

@marlina Seems like everyone was on Bubblews. Squidoo sounds like it was such a great site too!

I wrote a few articles on Helium, though I never made any money there, and of course I was on Bubblews where I really started writing blogs and earning money for it. This is the only site I know of.

@MarymargII It's a shame. Especially when there are so many people who can write very well.

It looks like over time that the writer and the writing site has been de-valued. There are an influx of writers and content isn't as needed as before or else they can get it for next to nothing.

We got some warning with Helium. I wrote there and on Bubblews and still have a lot of work on Infobarrel. I like Infobarrel although I haven't written there for ages.

@MarymargII I'm not sure really. You could write really 'meaty' articles there but it took more effort. Posts on here are very easy to write and don't take a lot of work which is okay but that is the difference.

I have heard about Infobarrel as well as HUbPages - I think they are similar. Why do you like Infobarrel so much?

I don't think there are really good online writing sites these days. They're all either paying too low or become obsolete and disappear after some time. Oh what an online life...

Seems to be part of being an online writer. Sad to see so many of them die off. I'm hoping that myLot stays healthy.

I started on Bubblews, when it closed down, I found other sites that did not pay and did not last. Then I found Blogjob, it was fun writing on Blogjob. I got paid twice while accumulating points for my third payout, the owner announced that the point system has been taken down. The site is still up but not paying.

Textbroker is not exactly Mylot, but it's still going. Mylot is pretty much the only one I know of.

True- I think I tried to join Textbroker a while back but they didn't accept Canadians. I'm not sure if they still do.
