Doodles isn't a Dummy, not that Anyone Said He Was

They say that vocabulary is a sign of intelligence. If that's true, we have a genius of a cat on our hands. Many of you have asked me if Doodles runs away when I take him on his daily walks or use a leash. The answer is neither. I carry a stick, mostly to ward off any critters that may come on to our property, but that hasn't happened yet. These are the commands he understands: Thank you! Do you want to eatsie? Do you want a drinky? Do you want to go out? No big, bad poison ivy! No big, bad ticks! Get him! Where is Mr. Moley? Where is Mr. Chippy? Where is Mr. Squirrel? Where is the birdy? Let's get the newspaper for grampy. Let's get the mail from Mr. Mailman. Walk on the sidewalk. Let's go! Time for goodnight treatsies. Do you want to go sleepy with grammy and grampy? Come to Grammy. Time for treatsies. Kissy Kitty Baby Doggy Big bad car Daddy's home!!!!!! He also speaks! Even though his little cat mouth can't form the words, these are some of the words he meows to me: Out! Another one One more Yes Ow, meaning he's hungry

I've got 1 @DianneN where we have conversations. If I need to go to the bathroom, I'll ask him, "Go pee-pee?" And he'll race down the hallway and beat me to the bathroom. As I'm sitting there, he and I will have a talk. I'll ask him, "Do you love me?" And he'll say, "Nooooo". I'll say, "What do you mean no!" And he'll say, "Now?" This is while he's rubbing back and forth against my leg. Crazy cat. His name is Cry Baby.

@DianneN So true (smarter). Have you seen some of those youtube videos with cats talking? It's amazing how they actually sound like they are saying the words.

Lol!!! Love it! He sounds so precious and smart. I tried saying what my son says today. Doodles was lying in the driveway and I walked to the front door and said, "Let's go!" The fat little thing ran right up the sidewalk to the door! Amazing! Cats are smarter than people give them credit!

Recent studies show dogs understand most words, I bet cats do too.

He is a smart boy. I love that all cats are so different. You will never have another like him. My younger cat Merle is pretty smart and understands when we talk to him and answers back. I have never had a cat like him before. My daughter has a cat that says "Hello." It is the funniest thing ever. It scared her the first time she heard it. It was in the middle of the night and she woke to somebody saying "Hello." She thought there was somebody in her house and she kept calling out "Hello" and it kept saying it back. When she got out of bed to see who was in her house there was the cat standing there looking at her. She looks up at my daughter and says "Hello."

That is awesome and hysterical! Years ago we had a cat that sounded like a baby. I kept running upstairs to check on my younger son thinking he woke up from a nap. It was the cat! Baby monitors weren't invented then. Lol!

That's quite a list that he can understand. I know with our dog he was so affectionate and in tune to the way we were feeling, if we were blue or wanted to calm down she would lie beside you on the couch and let you stroke her hair until you felt easy again, and when I was sick in the bed with the flu or a headache, she'd lie beside my feet, and never ever leave my side. She was so in tune. Pets are so receptive to much more then just our words, but our lifestyles also.

That is remarkable! We always hear of cats being stubborn and doing what they want to do making it difficult to learn. Doodles is proving all that wrong. What a smart kitty he is! I know that Grammy is so proud.
