Those pesky myLot™ guidelines...again

What purpose do they even serve? They just seem to get in the way of discussions here, and many people never read them anyway. I mean, every day I see discussions from people that violate them...and then not too long afterwards I see discussions from those same people wondering why their first discussion got deleted.
And many of them will even tell you they 'don't have time' to read them.
So why don't we just throw them out the door...along with the Terms and FAQ pages?
It'll save server space, and I can quit reminding people of them.

This is where you will find out what kinds of behavior are accepted and unaccepted on myLot. When in doubt, remember the Golden Rule!

God forbid people actually follow the rules! That would be asking too much!
A while ago, we had to close a facility for a day for some maintenance work. We posted a big sign at the front door. On the day the facility was closed, an angry patron called our boss cussing him out about the facility being closed. My boss forwarded the complaint to me, and when I contacted the lady, she was screaming at me that there should have been some sort of notice about the facility closing, so she didn't have to waste her time driving all the way there. I told her we had a big sign posted at the front door an entire week before the facility closed, and she said to me: "You expect me to read those signs?" I kid you not!

she was expecting the notice to be personally and verbally delivered?

LOL...she complained there should have been some sort of advance notice and then complained that she shouldn't be expected to take the "trouble" to actually READ the advance notice. It's awful but that doesn't even surprise me anymore. Unfortunately, you really CAN'T fix stupid.

@hereandthere Yes, she was expecting that a staff member would verbally deliver the news to her when she came to visit the facility earlier in the week. My staff sees over 600 customers per day at that facility, there is no possible way they could tell every single one of them!

Lol. Well rules are part of life, I can't imagine all the spam that would be here without them.
If they don't have time to read them then they really don't have time to be here either.

I'll be the first to admit I often see how far they'll bend without breaking

my only complaint is that they arent easier to find when you are new. to me "help" means I need it, not help learning how to use the site.

@moirai it's in an odd spot. When I was new, I had to be directed to figure out where to find it

I try and help new members out where possible by giving the link to the guidelines etc and if they want to read them that's up to them...you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink and all that jazz
My main bugbear at the moment is more established members getting the earnings information utterly wrong and "explaining" their wrongness to newer members.
One particular person just does not get it and explaining gets you blocked

Ah! There it is. I've been looking for those guidelines. I thought I looked through everything already. Why didn't it occur to me that it would be under help? D'oh!
Thanks for the link.
Anyway, so they still delete discussions here? I kind of thought they were a bit more lenient now because I've seen too many (may I call them) non-discussion posts out there.
I, for one, haven't posted a new discussion for four years or so now. There is always that fear or worry that it might not be acceptable. But I do have one in mind right now. Will be posting it shortly. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's ok.

The one I see broken the most is from longer term myLotters posting milestones. I'll telllya though, I don't report them. What I'm pleased to report is plagiarism, because there are some people here who really go to a lot of trouble to post something original. Not me, but some people.
I notice when you bend those guidelines, you usually post a warning it's likely to get removed, I always think it's polite of you, lol

If other Mylotters would just ignore discussions that are in violation,or if they must comment...tell the poster that this discussion violates the terms of use. Instead, I see seasoned my lottery adding their 2 cents? Worth to the discussion.....why? Why? Why?
