It must be something in her genes...

This is Tilly when we found her wet, cold and abandoned 5 years ago. She was a pitiful sight. We already had three rescued dogs but she was the first puppy we found. She was probably barely 6 weeks old at the time and still in need of her mother. She looked so innocent, more like a little lamb than a little dog.
Tilly is now in her prime, she is the smallest of our dogs but the lamb has developed into more of a lion! She is the most energetic, affectionate and jealous animal. I suspect she may be the most intelligent too as she responds immediately to her name, comes when she is called, sits and gives her paw and talks to us in gentle little howls when she is displeased in some way. The others are not quick to respond.
The lion side is not so cute, she chases the cats up the trees and she has to have a victim to nip at and her victim is the biggest dog in the pack, Greta the half German Shepherd. Mostly Greta runs away but occasionally when pushed too far Greta responds and a fight ensues. The result is that the two dogs are now enemies and we have to keep them separated because Greta is strong enough to kill Tilly and Tilly will not run away from a fight. We think she may have some bull terrier in her from what we have read about the breed.
Tilly runs free during the day with three of the other dogs and is always the first to greet us when we come home, rushing excitedly to the car with her tail turning circles. No one would guess that she has a darker side to her nature.

Her fur was rather woolly as a pup but it is quite wiry now, but still quite thick. She is very affectionate but jealous too. She doesn't growl when other dogs get attention, she just pushes to the front...

@crazyhorseladycx The male dogs also ask for attention but just a little, whereas a couple of the girls never get enough...

@41CombedaleRoad Bearing battle scars is something we all carry as we get old. Do you have any recent pictures of her?

Sweet story, my sister has a stray cat rescue, and it acts much the same way. It has the loudest meow I have ever heard!

I have 3 cats - 2 we picked from a known mother, the other was brought home by one of the dogs. He is a bully although we had him from a tiny kitten. The other two are females. Perhaps that's why he bullies them =- although it only works on one cat. The other chases him away.

What a dog! We had a kitten that we named 10 dogs cause she was so fearless and extraordinary of an animal. This pup is really something. What a little personality, huh? Thanks for sharing. This was really enjoyable reading.

Every one who lives with animals has a nice story to tell. Your kitten is a likely example...

She is the danger @41CombedaleRoad so naturally she doesn't perceive the others as dangerous ...... they're not called bull terriers for nothing, they are bull headed and can't imagine not being in total control.

That is interesting, our other rescued dogs are all bigger than she is but she doesn't seem to have a sense of danger...

@sugartoes Tilly is very jealous too, always pushing herself in front of the other demanding little heads. You have seven dogs too? Then you will be familiar with the problems of having a 'pack' rather than just a pet in the house.

The good side outweighs the not so good. That is true of people too.

It's a nuisance because a small incident can trigger an over reaction on both sides.

@41CombedaleRoad Because now they consider each other an enemy, it's a shame. I wonder if there is something that can be done to stop this.

She would like that, and she would want to lick you in return. Some dogs are lickers, I don't let her near my face but she always gets my hand.

Smaller dogs are said to be more aggressive. They have a complex about their size. It's so heart warming to hear of abandoned dogs finding homes.

We have 7 now and they are all lovely animals but I think they do not get as much attention as they would like although we do spend quite a lot of time with them.

@jennyjoy I think animals need another one of their kind. Watching the cats groom one another confirms this to my mind and as for the dogs well they are naturally pack animals. T
