I have cavities. Not just 1 cavity .. 2? 3? ....... 4.... I have 5 CAVITIES!!!

Mom and I went to the dentist today. She had her teeth cleaned while I got my teeth x-rayed/examined by the dentist. - Bad news - 3 of my teeth, need 5 fillings for cavities. Shockingly the last visit 6 months ago my hygienist said, my teeth was looking mighty clean with no cavities! My dentist, said my cavities are very minor + lucky they caught it early on so it won't be a hard procedure. And, the reason being is my cavities are not visible from the naked eye. It was barely noticeable on the x-ray but they want to get it done before it spreads. I finished my dentist visit early, so I went to go watch my mom get her teeth cleaned and told her the bad news. Of course, she nagged at me. After, she finished her teeth cleaning, she went to go see the dentist and get x-rays and her teeth examined too! Then, I went to get my teeth cleaned. I asked my dental hygienist how come she couldn't see my cavities? It's because it is between my teeth and only visible in x-rays. Afterwards, met up with my mom and she had 2 cavities herself! What a horrible day today! We made our appointments for November. There goes $$$$! Tip from my dental hygienist: Purchase mouthwash with fluoride. I will be looking into that soon at Target. Fluoride protects your teeth by strengthening to make them more decay resistant. She was just a little late telling us... More job security + money for them. Then again, my dad says it's a way for them to bait us. Who knows? We don't have any toothaches or anything either. Oh who to believe?

Cavities should be treated before it spreads. But, one side of me is saying that maybe one more test should be done by a reliable doctor.

@infatuatedbby I went to the dentist yesterday. We have free cleaning and restoration here in college. They have free dentures too. I am working in a dental college so I can avail their free services.

It's better to have them fixed immediately, so that the problem does not spread. I had a cavity last year that was also invisible.

A few years ago - I had a cavity and they didn't see it to the point I had to get a crown. That I don't want it was costly! We will be getting our cavities filled next month.

@LadyDuck I was furious too because my dental hygienist didn't see my cavity. The x-rays didn't show my cavity. Then when they took x-rays they said oh I needed a crown. You skipped the part where you're supposed to catch the cavity before needing a crown!

@infatuatedbby It happened to me many years ago (in Italy) the dentist said it was only a gum irritation, it was a cavity and later I needed a crown, I was furious.

Best to get the cavities filled while they are small and before your teeth start to ache.

Hi even I'm a dentist And would advice not to take your cavities lightly... If you wait for pain thenit shall be too late... Then root canal treatment will be the only option

I've had a few teeth like that it was between the teeth and they were really close together. I had a piece of tooth (luckily my wisdom teeth) last month fell off and I got the tooth shaved. A filling fell out and I am hoping to get it fixed in November.

After 18, I seem to get more cavities. Now I'm 26. My dental hygienist did say after 18 they stop giving fluoride treatments because it isn't covered when you're 18+. So that was protecting our teeth. My theory: After you're 18 - they know people are working and want you to pay for your teeth being damaged
