The Other Side of a Peacock

If you've been reading my posts lately you'll know we went to a wildlife park and saw, among other things, a peacock with his tail spread out beautifully. I thought you might like to see the back side (pun intended) of him with its soft, downy feathering. The peacock is certainly a work of art isn't he?

That is very interesting. I have seen many peacocks before but I never seen the back side of one.

The back side is interesting I thought. The stronger feathers forming patterns and the softer downy ones.

Noisy brutes, peacocks. Yes, I have seen both sides of the one that lived in the grounds of a house we lived in once some years ago.

You're right. They are very noisy but make good watch-dogs.

This one was in a wildlife park so he wasn't really wild. He was pretty keen to strut his stuff so to speak. :)

@Jenning Yes there are but not in Australia. They are apparently in India and Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Java and parts of Africa.

@JudyEv I would answer that but I may be accused of telling tails.

I don't know how but I missed a heap of comments on this post. Is there an optimum time for 'tail' shots?

Makes me wonder whether he is trying to attract one from front and one from "back side".. you know have his cake and eat it too kind.

@JudyEv So true, the tail of the female is not as glamorous as the one of males.

I missed this back in November. I was surprised to see the females spreading their tails too although they weren't nearly as glamorous.

If that peacock could have talked he would have given you a beakful! Sneaking around his back like that and letting us see the reverse side of all that beauty he had on display!

Not sure what to reply to that. I wonder if he ever worries about what he is revealing when he does his display. I've been away quite a bit so off to catch up with your posts. I thought perhaps you'd been away too but by the discussions you've put up it seems not. It can be hard to keep up with everyone. :)

@JudyEv - Ms Judy - I can just visualize Vince sneaking up behind that peacock to make this photo. He needs to watch out, for when sneaking up behind peacocks, he is sneaking up behind one of the meanest, peckingest birdies on the planet. By the way, the viewpoint of this posting is very nicely contrarian, and I enjoyed it a lot. -Gus-

The peacock was quite happy to turn his back on us so we didn't do any sneaking at all. Glad you enjoyed it.

I've never seen the back-side of a peacock before and it's quite amazing. I have seen a peacock with his tail open from the front. It's pretty indeed either from the front or the back

India is well known for its peacocks isn't it? My mother was very thrilled when she got her first two.
