My oldest sister had surgery today

She is in recovery and everything went fine. She was having a lot of stomach problems, indigestion, etc. She went to see her doctor and after running tests they discovered that her stomache was in the wrong place. They said she must have fallen and it shifted her stomache out of place so nothing was lined up properly. Last winter she fell going down the icy steps and hit her back pretty hard so they figured that is when it happened. They said it needed to be fixed as soon as possible so they got her in pretty quickly. She will be in the hospital for a week and then it will be a six weeks recovery. This is the first time I have ever heard of such a thing. Do any of you know anybody that this has happened to?

Yes. I have heard about this from my mom. Though i never researched it. Apparently our insides are not as stable and durable as we think.

This is weird, I never heard something like this. I am going to search, this is extremely uncommon I think.

I've never heard of anything like that but I guess it's possible a serious fall could do that kind of damage. Glad your sister is out of surgery and I wish her a speedy recovery

My mom had to have a hysterectomy after a bad fall. It was similar, they said her uterus was knocked out of place and causing problems. Hope your sister makes a great recovery.

Thanks. She is not one to ever complain much so it was hard to know how much pain she was really in.

It's the first time that i have heard of it ? Did she not get a second opinion from another doctor before finally having that operation ? The other doctor could have a plausible explanation and would not need surgery to correct it .

Surgery was the only option in her case.

Strange that stomach would move out of place without one going under great pain rather than just some indigestion. When an entire organ moves we should feel more than just discomfort in that area.

I don't know anybody who had a similar issue. I heard of someone who needed to a surgery because of appendicitis after an accident. I don't remember who she was though, but still not the same thing. Hope your sister will recover well.

That sounds rather unlikely to happen. Maybe she misunderstood what they said. Your guts don't change places because you fell. Whatever it was, I hope she will soon be on the mend.

Maybe so but she did see the xray and the doctor was quite clear about it. He said it is rare but it can happen if you have a bad enough fall.
