That One Dish

Green bean casserole. A dish known for being popular during an American Thanksgiving. It's basically the one time a year French's fried onions are sought after. That being said, I've never actually been at a Thanksgiving meal where green bean casserole was actually served. Commercials during the holiday season would make one believe it is at every table. So I think I'm going to make one this year. I'll make a few healthy changes, but I will finally taste the oft touted greenbean casserole.

I've only heard of green bean casserole the last few weeks and on here. I don't know the dish at all. Let us know how it turns out.

Green bean casserole is a staple at our Thanksgiving table, and our Easter table, and Christmas as well. Those are pretty much the only times of year we do have it, but the kids LOVE it, so I make sure to make it. It's easy, and pretty much the only way the kids will eat green beans... so why not?

Is your recipe pretty much like what you find online?

@AmbiePam Yep, green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and french fried onions. That's the part the kids like best so I use tons of the french fried onions.

I have never ever had that casserole either. We had green beans a couple of nights ago for supper, I steamed them lightly and then quickly pan fried them and broke up a slice of (cooked) bacon and tossed that in them. Gotta eat up those leftovers and who could resist green beans and bacon??

We make it once in a while, I do not care for it. Hubby likes it so I make it for him from time to time

I like it, and someone always brings it to our family get together. I have had it with diced pimiento thrown in for color and that is good too. I like it better than the broccoli/rice/cheese casserole that is always present. I like my own homemade best.

I haven't made one and nobody in my house wold eat it. Green beans aren't grown in my yard and the vegetable fresh is expensive here. Enjoy the dish.

With thanksgiving just around the corner,I think it creates the perfect avenue to promote the dish.

I do not think a green bean casserole would be all that good.

I have never liked the green beans and they are also expensive in this season. It's not something I am going to buy.

I make mine differently than the well-known one. I make a white sauce, mix it with the green beans, then top it with bread crumbs and melted butter.

You are so right, I have never had it at Thanksgiving either. I use those French's Onions for potaotes. I slice the potatoes think and back them in a bit of butter until they are done. Then throw on the onions pop back in the oven for a few minutes, and yummy.
