Preparing for the Feast, what is your job?

This is the time of year people in the US celebrate Thanksgiving. I know that not all of you observe this holiday. On the other hand I am almost certain that every country has a feasting time.
So here is your chance to tell us about your feast, and to tell us your job.
I am going first.
We will eat at my brother's house, he will have roast turkey and roast ham. There will be stuffing and dressing--bread of various types with vegetables added, like onion and celery, and seasoned with turkey broth. Mashed potatoes, candied yams, salads and garnishes, and lots of desserts and possibly breads will be there in plenty.
My official job is to prepare the old fashioned cooked whole berry cranberry sauce. Basic recipe is to bring 1 C sugar and 1 C water to boil and add a 12 oz package of cranberries. Return to a boil and boil for ten minutes. Cool and put into containers.
In addition to that I am going to make Cranapeno sauce. That is traditional sauce with jalapenos added to the cooking. On the stove presently is Spicy Apple Cranberry Ginger sauce. My mother is likely turning over in her grave.

Today I ground corn into flour. Tomorrow I will make cornbread. We'll hollow out a squash and stuff it with the cornbread- I must remember to add raw cranberries in its batter. Room mate says she will make egg rolls and bake them on Thanksgiving day. Hubby will make the ginger apple cider T. morning. I am going to try to make a date fig orange juice millet pudding. And cocoa/ dates/ almond truffles. Can't wait!

thanksgiving will be at my daughters and it's my job to bring the turnips and a broccoli with cheese sauce. My other daughter is making a brownie pie crust with mint chocolate chip ice cream for dessert (as well as the traditional pies that will bethere)

My niece always brings a broccoli rice casserole with cheese. No one would eat turnips except Bob and I. We did Brussel's sprouts last year and no one ate them. I would like to have more veggies.

I do everything. We always have it at home, just us and the kids now that his parents are gone. Doesn't really seem like a special day other than I do more cooking than usual.

@katsmeow1213 It is good to avoid drama. Thanksgiving is about being thankful and it should not turn into a disaster. I do not blame you for doing it your way.

@GardenGerty We used to go to hubby's sister's way back when.. but that was always a disaster so we just started doing it at home so we could do it our own way.

@GardenGerty Well, back when we got along okay with the sister, we had a few holidays there and they weren't bad... But then she started having marriage trouble so the holidays got weird and she started changing the schedule or menu or things like that... any that we did go to were disappointing, then we had a few times we'd find out the morning of that whatever she was doing wouldn't work for us (because of timing or menu or whatever) so we were scrambling to come up with our own dinner. After one Christmas where she served lunch meat sandwiches and chips we just gave up and decided to do our own from that point on.

It sounds like a great feast. This year Thanksgiving is at my apartment with my boys, so I'll be doing all the cooking. They are bachelors and I don't know if either of them know how to cook, well yes, my youngest is a good cook, but I don't know if he's ever done anything like a Thanksgiving Day meal.

How do you make creamed onions. I used to make a dish called "Easy Oven Onions" but I lost the recipe.

@GardenGerty I make a basic Bechamel sauce, boil small pearl type fresh onions and then combine the two. It is traditional in our neck of the woods.

After mom passed away it became my job to make the cranberry sauce as she made it. To her, jalapenos definitely would not go in anything, any time. She would also find ginger spicy cranberry sauce a horrible thing. I think I liked that one the best though. So what is a special Christmas food on your side of the world?

@GardenGerty As it's so hot here in December pavlova, trifle and fruit salad are often on the dessert menu.

With extra family here for Thanksgiving, I am going to make ham, pumpkin pies and yeast rolls. Normally I do just yeast rolls and help mom in law with the turkey and all the sides. After dinner I wash the dishes so she can rest. Your cranberry sauce sounds good. I may have to try it sometime with Mike and I to see how we like it.
