Knock knock. Who's there?

It's midnight and someone just knocked on my door. I looked out the peephole and saw a Papa John's hat (a pizza place). I opened the door and she asked if this was apartment number (insert number here). I said yes, but I didn't order a pizza. She apologized and walked away with the pizzas.
I feel so bad for her! It's midnight, and 14 (F) outside. There is snow and ice all over the place. She's a tiny, little blonde girl, who was shivering on my doorstep.
My guess is that someone misheard the apartment number when they took the order. Bless her heart.
I normally don't answer midnight knocks on the door. Especially when I didn't have a peephole until last year. No one I know has ever knocked on my door that late at night.

@FayeHazel Yes, this is a well known way to enter someone's house, the police warn people never to open the door if you do not expect someone.

Come to think on it - it would be a great way for a criminal to get in someone's house

@AmbiePam I have left instructions never to deliver anything to me beyond a certain time. I do not like opening doors late nights

@allknowing Good idea. I once had a couple guys at my front door, and I just ignored the doorbell because it was almost 1 in the morning. They tried to kick in my door and I yelled I was calling the cops so they'd go away.

I used to deliver pizza.. there were quite a few times I couldn't find the place I was looking for. The worse the weather, the busier we seemed to be.

@AmbiePam Depends on who you're delivering to. When I did it I was young and cute, so I probably got tipped better by some of the guys. There was one particular guy that ordered regularly and he started tipping me $10.

Years ago I had a younger friend who did pizza delivery a while. She hated the calls to deliver to motels. Even in our smallish town it was dangerous.

I totally thought of that. I thought since it was a tiny looking young lady there could be a guy out of my peephole range using her as a decoy. I kind of prepared myself to slam the door closed if a guy popped out. Sad women have to be that suspicious.

I'm glad for both of your sakes that you were able to safely answer the door tonight.
Otherwise she'd lose a lot of time there and her other deliveries would be later and I'm sure her tips would be low as a result.
Now, all of a sudden I feel like pizza!

I would be afraid to open my door up so late. I wonder if the pizza ever got delivered?

poor girl. i have heard of people ordering and deliberately doing that , then picking up the pizza when brought back in the trash or maybe showing up at the back to be snuck out. depending on how they dispose of it in different stores/restuarants

By that time I would be sound asleep and the house would be dark. I would be afraid to open the door but I can see out the window on the door. I feel sorry for the delivery person too...

I didn't know Papa John's delivered. That said -- poor girl. I hope they had a way of calling the people who ordered the pizza.... I feel bad for the cart boys at grocery stores in this weather
