What experience do you have with electric cars?

Many are interested in saving money when it comes to buying or using a car.
Would buying an electric car be the best way to go to save money on fuel costs?
Those who do not have to travel far to get to work might night be interested in an electric car. What about the rest?
If you have some information about electric cars you would like to share, please do!

Perhaps in the future we will see these at a price the average person can pay.

@PatZAnthony I do not know in the long run if they are a good idea. Do you know how much the batteries used to power electric cars pollute?? How to dispose of all those batteries?? The only solution is a safe substitution to the gasoline, not the electric.

It seems that I have heard that there is a shortage of places to charge the batteries. Other than that, I know little, but would wait a while to invest in one.

It would not be good to buy one and find out it was not the right choice. We don't have charging stations here now.

Since I don't have a car and take public transportation to get around, I don't think of cars much anymore. I think we will see more electric cars in the future but I will not have one. I think that there are way to many cars in the cities these days and there has to be a better way.

There are no options in many areas of the USA. A car is a must. No buses or biking is out of the questions in the mountains.

Honestly, I would ban electrical or petrol cars for all those who are no longer working or reduce the quota of petrol allocation or energy allocation for transportation purposes. The reason is people need to exercise. Some contraption that forces people to use their legs like cycling but with enough stability and cycling which generates the required power by charging the batteries ..or sunlight that charges batteries...hmm...that would help. Only public transport or taxis would be allowed. Thank god I am not the head of any state..lol

Where we live, people would not be able to get to appointments, church, etc. without a vehicle. Many areas don't have buses, can't be accessed well with a bike or by foot.

@PatZAnthony No, but we do have a hybrid. It's battery/gas powered.

There is about 6 or 8 towns south of our capital of Perth, Western Australia which form a circle. They are all tourist towns and all have provisions for plugging in electric cars. The towns were chosen so that electric cars could get from one to another and charge their batteries at each. I don't really know how popular they are. That's about all I know about such vehicles.

Not having a place to plug in here would be a huge issue!

One of my girl friends has a Toyota Prius and really likes the electric. We have a lot of charging stations in my area, so money can be saved here. Her husband uses the gas for longer trips, so the car really works well for their needs.

It seems most people would be interested if there was electricity available.

At the mall where we manage we use a shuttle service for people who will be coming from the city proper to the mall , that we call e-jeeps , e being a shortcut for electronic .
It's so nice to ride one and it is in a car with open on the side benches and could seat 13 people . So refreshing to ride on it .

We looked into it but since we drive long distances it would not be practical unless it was a hybrid .

If the car's battery gets regenerated while using the car it might not be all that bad. But, I think you have to have s special electrical hook-up to charge them. With the costs of electricity these days, I'm not sure whether there would be enough of a cost savings. Unless you had one of the types that use both gas and electricity.
The husband of a old friend used to have one of those cars, but we quit seeing them shortly after he got it so I never heard whether he liked it in the long run or not. I also don't know that I could afford the initial price to purchase one of them either.
Are you considering one yourself, or just seeing what everyone else thinks about them?

We would consider one if the prices was right (you know that is not going to happen) and the range was good.
Most we know can't afford what is out there now.

Well, I no longer have my driver's license, so there will be no more cars for me. But it's something I had considered a while back. I had just needed more information on the electricity. Of course, with the move to the apartment building, I wouldn't be able to have an electric car here. I wonder why we don't have solar powered cars?

It seems anything that keeps the rich from earning on our purchases at the money won't be popular.
We should have many solar things.

@PatZAnthony Yes, that's what makes sense to me. The sun is up there, pretty much handing us all the energy we need. Someone needs to harness that energy and allow us to use it rather than what we're doing now.

I love the concept of electric cars and was considering getting a Tesla, but range is a HUGE concern. A friend of mine has a Nissan Leaf and he loves it, but he'll be the first to acknowledge that keeping it charged is an issue. He happens to have a charging station at work and at home and STILL hangs on to his old gas car to be safe. There just isn't enough infrastructure to support EVs. Hybrids are absolutely the best choice. I'm planning on buying a hybrid as my next car.

Range and price will stop many. We need better choices.
