How Fashionable will we want to look this year?

Fashion is one of those trendy things that we love or hate and no doubt 2017 will bring about some interesting changes in the clothes we wear and all the accessories designed to go with them. I tend mostly towards classical styles but over the years I have enjoyed some of the popular designs that made it into the market place at affordable prices. I remember with nostalgia those flouncy tiered petticoats topped with full skirts. How feminine we looked as they twirled around over the layers of petticoat. That was a style I loved but it was a long time ago. In recent years I have encountered a fashion that I hate. Trousers and jeans that are cut to fit below the waist. It is very hard to find a pair that fit snugly to the waist. Instead they reach only half way up and gradually slip further down as soon as one starts moving about and then they feel so uncomfortable as well as look ill fitting. I hope that huge handbags go out of fashion and piercings and tattoos lose their appeal this year too.

Tattoos, especially on girls, are my pet hate too. I think they look so awful and it doesn't bear thinking about what they'll be like once a person ages.

I remember when only sailors had tattoos, of the 'I love' type in hearts or else tigers stretched along backs! At least they were out of sight.

@41CombedaleRoad That's true. I remember the types in hearts too and many sailors seemed to love their mothers!

I sincerely hope that those ridiculously huge handbags, piercing and tattoos will lose their appeal, those are all ugly.

Nature is lovely without those enhancements!

Back in the early 1970s we called them hip huggers and being in my early 20s I found them comfortable along with halter tops but I wouldn't want to wear them in this day and age, I'm way too flabby to want to show off a midriff and those halters only worked on those of us who were smaller in the bust and didn't feel the effects of gravitation yet. That's all changed

I think both those worked best in hot regions like ours here in El Paso @41CombedaleRoad

In the sixties I had the cropped top and matching hip hugger trousers, there wasn't much opportunity to wear them as I lived in England at the time and it was cold, however I loved them. I would look ridiculous in them now!

My granddaughter has a little one on her ankle, it doesn't show and I can't see the point...

My granddaughter has a little tattoo on her ankle, it doesn't even show so I can't see the point of having one at all.

I'm not a big fan of those large handbags either. They might appeal to me more if I was going to work & had a lot of things to carry. As for those low rise jeans..a big thumb's down on them too. The older I get the more I'm attracted to comfort rather than fashion

Comfort beats fashion any day. Especially for feet, that is my experience as my heels have lowered year by year. Big bags are there for filling up and they get heavy, that is one of the reasons why they have no appeal to me. The other problem is that they take up so much room. If you have ever been in a small elevator with a large woman and a large bag you will know what I mean.

Big bags are bound to be filled up and then they are heavy. That is why I dislike them and also when the wearer is in a crowd she takes up so much room, the handbag gets in the way. I dress for comfort too but it is nice to look fashionable as well whenever possible.

I'd go with whatever is comfortable - fashionable or not. Sadly I just bought a huge handbag.

If you are disciplined enough to not fill it up you might enjoy your new handbag.

These days I don't go for fashion I go just for comfort. I work at home so there is no reason to dress up. However through the years I have had many different fashions that I have really enjoyed and as much as I hate to say it there are still some of them in my closet which I just can't part with due to the memories but I know I won't wear again.

I'm the same only I keep mine in the hope that one day I will lose enough weight to wear them again...

When things I like happen to come into fashion, that's great. If I don't like the latest fashion then I just have to be unfashionable until it changes again!

I don't really follow the fashion trends. I just wear what I like. I do have two tattoos and a navel piercing. They aren't going out style anytime soon.

I am afraid that piercings will tear. Does this not worry you?

I like light handbags with several zip divisions. That way I can go straight to my phone or my keys without digging about.
