My best postcard find to date

Tenerife postcard

During the course of last year I sent out numerous postcards to a few Mylot members who collect such items. Along the way I have been lucky enough to encounter several postcards of unorthodox shape and design, such as a round one, wide landscape view and a clover shaped one etcetera. While spending last week in the North of Tenerife I came across the best example that I have discovered so far. As can be clearly seen by the scan of the postcard above, this is actually Tenerife shaped. Due to the fact that a respectable area would be required to add the recipient’s address and a message, these postcards are also very large. Of course due to the shape of the island, there is also a protruding section that could be rather prone to damage. This leaves me once again hoping that these postcards manage to arrive safely without serious damage or folding. There were only 2 varieties of these available, but fortunately both were very well designed. I imagine that the girls will be delighted to receive these, but may begin to hate me when they try to fit them into their various display books or covers.

What a unique shape! I can imagine that the postal service probably isn't happy to see odd shapes like that. I imagine it could jam all their fancy sorting machines. I hope those postcards make it to their intended recepients.

I would enjoy upsetting the postal services because they have upset me enough times.

@moffittjc That sounds like Royal Mail here in England.

@Asylum But you don't want to upset them too badly, or they'll just throw away your postcards and they'll never reach their destinations!

This is a very nice and interesting postcard. I think I have seen one years ago shaped like Sicily.

@LadyDuck There is a protuding section in the North East, but not as elongated as the one of Tenerife.

@Asylum No, I am not a cruel girl, the shape of Sicily is easy to picture in your mind, it's a triangle.

Quite a few of the girls here are avid postcard collectors and often send and receive postcards to many others. This is what started me sending postcards whenever I traveled somewhere, which gradually changed into seeking unusual ones.

@Asylum A day has come in my life when I am in the process of reducing whatever I have collected so far which is of no use to others Our photo albums for example (physical) are languishing. in the good old days whenever guests turned up we used to dumpt albums on them while i was busy in the kitchen but now there are no takers. Photos are cheaper by the dozen - no cheaper by the thousands

@ramapo17 The girls here tend to use folders to store them because they have lots of postcards.

@Asylum I think it would be the most talked about post card when people view the whole collection on the wall. Maybe the owner of the display could rearrange it a little to fit your in the center.

@Jeanniemaries The potential for the corner to be creased was immediately evident, but it was worth the risk for such an unusual postcard. I know that each of the girls here would like this.

That is also my main concern. Nevertheless I did send very wide panoramic postcards, 12 inches wide, yet all 3 arrived without creases.

Each of the girls appear to have different ways of storing postcards, but in each case they use some protective covering. These may be difficult to fit into their systems.

Maybe so, but the condition will still be critical. Imagine receiving such a postcard and noticing the protruding piece creased. Your reaction would begin as delighted and reduce to devastated on finding the damage.

It's a very creative design, I am sure it would look amazing in the display books. I used to collect postcards too when I was a teenager, but they were lost when I moved abroad for a year. It's a lovely habit, do you have a postcard from Greece yet?

That is a beautiful postcard. Yesterday a stunning one arrived from Florida - which i have featured now, Betty Boop is the shape and I am sorry my scanner didnt show the original outline. It arrived very much in tact - no bent corners nothing. I am so glad that you have a good time in Tenerife. So where to next?

I saw the Florida one and noticed those small outline marks on the image, I have never understood why scanners do this. The Tenerife shaped postcard is likely to be rather vulnerable to damage.

The postcard is large enough to place the postage stamp in the main body. It is the peninsular that I suspect would be prone to damage.
