Pacman - My Grandfather And Other Animals

I saw a news article yesterday suggesting that scientists have discovered the earliest ancestor of all vertebrates (and therefore of humans, too). This animal, which lived 540 million years ago, was about a millimeter in diameter and lived amongst grains of sand. It was sort of globular and had a huge mouth (and no anus), so it was rather like that ancient precursor of video games, Pacman!
. Its official name is Saccorhytus, which means 'wrinkled bag'.
Sometimes I really wonder what medications these so-called 'scientists' are on (if, indeed, it isn't because they have forgotten to take prescribed medication!). but I suppose that we should believe them when they opine that such-and-such a creature is the ancestor of certain other creatures, and so on! They are 'scientists', after all.
Even so, I don't think I shall be putting this picture in my family album quite yet. I can trace my family (on my mother's side) back 300 years but I think that 540 million years and goodness knows how many generations might be a little too far to go!
Here's the article so you can see the creature and read more about it.

Humankind evolved from a bag-like sea creature which had a large mouth and no anus, scientists have said. The microscopic creature, named Saccorhytus, lived 540 million years ago, and was discovered in microfossils found in China. About a millimetre in siz

It might be because it's so late right now and I'm a *little* sleepy, but as I'm reading this post all I can really think is "There is at least a c-level horror movie in this!"...;). Mini packmen gobbling things, it just in some way reminds me of Steven King's The Langoliers;). Mmmm, as I said, it's late;).

Well, a lot can change in 540 million years! If we share 90% of our DNA with the humble banana, it's not really that far-fetched to believe that we might be somehow related to this creature.

It's all becoming so funny anymore. 25 years ago scientists made claims about so many things in all realms including food. Since then younger scientists have discounted what the older scientists had claimed and have made new claims. Personally, I'm not going to worry about that which is 540 million years old, interesting as it might be, I'd rather just read about what that iddy biddy thingy is and not contemplate if I'm related to it.

This might support the theory of evolution in man's history...but on the other hand, there is also quite a reasonable theory of creation which dispute this concept.

The claim that this creature is a distant ancestor is a result of accepting the fact of evolution rather than anything that 'supports' it. Evolution is called a 'theory' because it's a scientifically observable fact which cannot, however, be duplicated in the laboratory. That is the scientific definition of the word 'theory'. It doesn't conflict in any way with the hypothesis of the creation of life by a sentient being.

Definitely material for a horror movie, I'd say!
