January has gone and the shortest month of the year starts today. There are several holidays in February, some well known, some unusual and funny. Tomorrow it's the Groundhog Day in the United States. We celebrate Candlemas, also known as the Feast of the Purification. The 14th of the month it's St Valentine's Day. Do not forget those you love. The 28th is Fat Tuesday (or Mardi Gras Carnival). Now a list of some of the less known celebrations: Today February 1st - "No politics" day - Let it last all the month! 3 - bubble gum day 8 - Boy Scout day 11 - White T-shirt day 17 - Random act of kindness Day 20 - Love your pet day 22 - Be Humble Day 24 - LadyDuck birthday 26 - Tell a fairy tale day Do you know unusual celebrations held in February?

I like the thought of a 'random act of kindness' day. Our elder son will be 45 on February 26. I'm still not sure how it all happened!

Perhaps we should all embrace a 'random act of kindness' day. Every one would benefit from that.

@41CombedaleRoad I think it is a great idea - except I've already forgotten what day it is. I'll check then mark it on my calendar.

February 6th is supposed to be a day without phone, and I will put mine in plane mode. Are you doing crepes for Candlemas tomorrow ?

@LadyDuck I think it is born in France. The day was chosen because of the song by Nino Ferrer "Gaston y'a l'téléfon qui son, Et y'a jamais person qui y répond". Feb 6th is Saint Gaston.

Yes, I am doing crêpes tomorrow. I did not know about the no phone day, but I hate the phone so much that I am going to mark immediately the date. It's a Monday.

wow for such a short month there sure are a lot of holidays. Today is my youngest brother's birthday. I don't celebrate Valentines Day I just find that whole day silly. I do however love the no politics day now that's a day to celebrate.

It's also the birthday of two myLotters today. We always have a nice dinner for St. Valentine's day and the reason is because many years ago we escaped a serious accident and it was the 14th of February.

I like the LadyDuck birthday on the 24th and it's also my granddaughters 18th birthday. I'm all for today being no politics day and it would be nice if it could last the whole month. I don't know any unusual holidays this month but the others (groundhog and Valentines) are certainly popular

We celebrate the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington here. My nephew's birthday is on Groundhog Day and my grandson's birthday on Valentine's Day. Today would have been my husband's brother's birthday. We try to celebrate a random act of kindness every day, year round.

The best is to celebrate every day a random act of kindness. I remember that George Washington was born two days before me, the 22nd of February, I never remember Abraham Lincoln, but I know that Lincoln was a Aquarius while Washington was a Pisces like me. Happy birthday to your nephew.

In Canada we celebrate FamilynDay on the third Monday in February. February 20 is the day most people will not be at work. My husband is a chicken farmer. The chickens don't understand the concept of a paid holiday. So he will be working same as every other day.

I know, my grandfather complained all the time that the chicken and the cows do not understand the holidays and not even the daylight saving time.

I always thought February a bit sparse on the holiday front. Nothing beats a day off work for no good reason!

I am a native Pennsylvanian with German ancestry, so Groundhogs Day is a holiday for me. It began in Germany, where they used hedgehogs. We use groundhogs because there were no hedgehogs in Pennsylvania when my ancestors first arrived.

We have a groundhog that sleeps under the front step. He has a hole that he goes into. He is very friendly. You can feed him. He will come right up to you. He is quite fat now with all the treats that he gets. lol

I hope that I remember that your birthday is just 2 days before my husband's birthday-I think that I remembered last year. Groundhog day is here tomorrow also, but most people don't put a lot of stock into it as we get what we get when it comes to spring.

@Juliaacv Sometimes I make savory crepes, filled with ham and mushrooms, or cheese and ham. When I make sweet crepes my favorite are the classic crêpe Suzette, no filling but covered with an orange and orange liquor (Grand Marnier) sauce.
