I just got $7,000.00 from the government!

And all I did was answer the phone! The guy with a horrible foreign accent said my name and number had been drawn to receive $7,000.00 from the government, and all I had to do was give $1,000.00 of it to him! He said he was calling from some office in Washington DC, but I could hardly hear him from all the loud voices in the background. But he also said I would never have to pay the money back! And I said "Sure, I'll take it! Why do they want to give it to me?" And he said "You want a reason why?" And I said "Yeah, why are they giving it to me, who is it from, how quick can I have it, why do you want $1,000.00 of it back?" And then I told him he needed to tell everyone else in the room to shut up so I could hear him better. And he hung up. So I guess I am not getting my money after all.

Yes, I would say chances are you won't be getting your $7,000. Bummer, eh. I wonder why a government representative would hang up on you like that.

I once lost a wonderful prize in money because of answering their orders at a slow pace. It seems that they wanted me to think less and give out numbers and passwords quicker so that they could transfer the prize to me

@marguicha I told a pest that the party they wanted had passed (truthfully, it happened) and the caller said they would try again next week. Do they even listen?

lol, I tell them they have my info, drop it in the mail. I take those checks to the bank, ask them to check to see if the check is remotely legit (as I doubt it), and if it is a scam, add it to all the ones they report and stuff. I always hope that one day, one will be real though, lol!

@Jessicalynnt It's a shame the number was disconnected the next day, I was calling back to see where my money was at.

I was to call Canada Revenue immediately or I would be jailed for owing taxes. Too bad the message was left on my voicemail. I was going to ask which jail....and could I have a cell to myself......

It is a scam to get money from you. My sister has had callers with foreign accents claiming to be I R S agents saying she to pay up her tax bills. The rule is that the I R S has to send you a letter you owe money not a phone call.

The IRS scammer last year...I got him so mad after my second call to his number he wouldn't answer it anymore. I did that to a KKK recruiter once too several years ago and then posted his number of facebook and told all my friends to start calling and harassing him.

You should be very grateful this scam artist hung up. You were never going to get $7000.00 in fact, all that would have happened is you being out $1000,00 and this guy $1000,00 richer. So the next time someone calls telling you they are going to send you money for nothing, be the one who hangs up on them. This will save you a whole lot of grief and a whole lot of money as well

I received a call similar to that and I hung up on them. I am leery of those type of calls. It is a shame that he treated you like that. You might call the government and ask if someone called you from their department.

I am sure he would have asked the $1,000 BEFORE sending to you the $7,000. It would be so much simpler to deduct the 1,000 and only send 6,000.
