Caring for a Sick Missus

The office where my wife works is sharing a head cold. I know. This is not the sort of thing one usually likes to share at work. My wife insists her boss brought it in and spread it around at the staff meeting last week. Now she, and about 4 other people at the office, have the same head cold.
In a very uncharacteristic move, she left work just past noon and came home to nurse her cold. I came home intent on taking care of her when I got done at school. Instead, she went up to bed and took a nap. I did cook her dinner tonight, as I did last night. Now she has gone up to try and get a good night's sleep.
Having had my share of colds already this year, courtesy of my students, I am hopeful I will not catch this particular strain she has. I am still trying to get over the cough from my last bout.
Do colds tend to make the circuit where you work?

I'm usually good at fighting things off. I've never called in due to being sick, and I've never left early just for not feeling well. I have a great immune system.
That being said, Sunday I got a little stomach bug and came really close to calling in Monday as I still felt off.. but I stuck it out anyway.
Last night my head started to hurt, and my friend was saying how she had a head cold.. now this morning my head is hurting still and I've been sneezing a lot..

It has been going around work but so far I have managed to avoid it. I am hoping it will stay that way. Hope your wife feels better soon.

@Happy2BeMe She seemed a little better once she got home and had a chance to relax and eat the supper I made. She's already gone off to bed, so I hope with another good night's sleep she'll be much better tomorrow.

I work third shift, and so am only exposed to so many people.
I've had co workers come in with their colds but they haven't passed it on to me. I'm pretty immune to these things though.
Hopefully it won't make another round around her office before it's done... .and hopefully you won't be bringing it to class with you.

@DWDavis Yikes! This actually makes me think of a teacher I had back when I was in school. I forget which year, but she had a can of lysol she would spray the door knob down with and we'd have to clean our desk surfaces with it as well.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have Lysol wipes my students use to clean the desks every morning. I don't know if it helps so much with the germs, but it does help keep the desks clean.

@DWDavis That is because people have traveled for the holidays and brought back foreign viruses, foreign to your area, that is.

@GardenGerty That always concerns me, especially when so many of our Hispanic kids travel to Mexico over the holiday.

No, but it seems some say this happens.
If we can spread colds, flu, etc., how do those working in hospitals stay well?
Hmm-this is a question some can't answer. For whatever reason, we do not get colds, the flu, etc. in our household.

@DWDavis I think I am sick only because I went two years with very minimal exposure to anyone. I am making up for it now that I have gone back to work.

@GardenGerty Yes, I imagine your immunities have to build themselves back up.

You know we are very generously sharing with one another, I work in a school myself. Colds, yes, stomach or norovirus, yes, strep, the flu, yes, yes. I am lucky, for me it has only been colds, so far.

It's almost impossible not to catch a cold when you are around others who are battling one. It was nice that you are taking care of your wife. So what did you make for dinner?

I used to do a part-time weekend job to supplement my weekday self employment and used to dread catching something that would affect my main work. Phones were not cleaned regularly (if at all) and the pay was so low that people would say they could not afford to take time off when sick.

Aww poor thing. At least you are trying to help her out. I got sick a lot of school, mostly because of my poor immune system.

@DWDavis That is rough. In Japan that is just called respect haha People wear masks when they are sick so they do not get anyone else sick.

I'm a stay at home mom . . . but I know what it's like to have everyone else bring home stuff we don't want. Hubby will sometimes bring home whatever is going around his office . . . and the kids will bring home whatever's been going around in class/school. Then it will circulate at home, and everyone gets to "share" under the same roof
. It's almost inevitable. Hope your wife feels better and that you do do (I don't know why coughs linger for so long these days).

I read many posts here about people getting sick. The weather must be doing that. You are a great husband I know.
