Feeling Very Distraught

I always try to maintain a positive attitude but right now it's not working. I went out this morning to see what appears to be all of the anti-freeze from the car on the driveway. It's been leaking every since my husband fixed it, but it's worked to just add a little anti-freeze most every day. Now I'm lost as there just isn't money to take it to a mechanic and I can't seem to get my son to find the time to come over and take it apart to find out just what is going on. I don't really blame him for not wanting to, and he is working for money until dark most days. When he's not at work he's at his drug court classes and meetings. The pennies I earn barely add up to keep gas in the car, buy a little food, buy that darn anti-freeze and other little needed things. How can I ever get enough to fix the car?? My van has sat in the driveway, completely on empty since getting the car going. It has a rod going out, which means that at any time it could go out. I've been trying to figure out how to get that saved for too to be fixed before it goes completely out and then it would be a lost cause. Of course it might not even start at all after being parked for 3 months on empty and we have had some freezing weather. Sigh.....sorry to dump it all on my friends here. Guess I better get my mylotting done for the day and get to clicking for those pennies!

A gal online offered to send me money to bribe my son to come look at it...and then to give me what I would need for parts. I don't like doing that though. She does want to buy one of my quilts that isn't finished yet plus some hotpads that I will also have to make. Maybe we can work something out.

I'm trying to drive as little as possible to keep from needing to fill the gas tank of the van. The last fill up was $60.00 and I got lucky. The price was 10 cents a litre about (37 cents a gallon) less than the other gas stations. It saved me at least $6.

Yeah, my van takes about $80 to completely fill it. However, when I parked it that rod was sounding worse than ever.Always something and always no money.

When it rains it pours as the saying goes and unfortunately it's true.

It's frustrating just thinking about who I can ask to get me to different places. Most places aren't too much trouble but I hope I won't need to get kids from school or the bus stop!

@marsha32 I remember when that happened to me. I was without a car for about a month. It is frustrating. Hopefully this time will pass quickly for you.

Maybe try finding a mechanic willing to trade something for his services? I've done that a few times and have heard of sites where people trade services rather than pay money. It's something I'm interested in but I don't have any skills to trade...just manual labour type things. Hope things get better for you soon

That would be nice. I need to at least get busy and list these bags I have made up for sale in my etsy shop and then get to the local selling facebook group and star the items I have listed for sale again. Plus I need to figure out time to get some more things together to sell too.

@marsha32 if you have any dvds, blu ray or games to sell, try decluttr.com they are a media buyback site I've had some good luck with. It's usually bout a week and a half turnaround time between shipping and payment, but it helps in a pinch

@librarygeek1980 I only have about 3 that are actually mine, but that would be a good idea if I had them.

Ugh, I feel your pain, car trouble sucks. Sounds like you're water pump may need to be replaced, is it overheatin by chance? The last time I replaced the water pump on my almost 20 year old truck it cost ,me just barely over 120.00 good luck and keep posted!

Someone else suggested it might be the water pump that is leaking. I'm hoping that's all it is although I hear that's a pain to get to. It doesn't really over heat, but it would go past the middle line when the anti freeze was really too low.

@marsha32 It's a common fault and has happened to me before. Not too expensive to replace. Depends on car model.

P.S. Rather than guess it's best to get someone to identify the source of the leak. If it's since your husband 'fixed' it. What did he do? Maybe it's just a badly connected hose or a split hose. That would be even cheaper to repair.

I thought about asking church....we are a small church that is already in financial trouble though. I would like help to get it fixed then to pay back however slowly it might be.

I try not to do it....after all the world doesn't need to know, or care about my problems. I'm about to clean out a room at my mom's and go move in with her until my husband can get his act together.

I'm so sorry to hear this. It must be awful not having the cars running. I hope you start the van every couple of weeks so the battery remains charged.
