The boy is not happy with me...

Some of you know Scar got injured the other morning...I didn't see it, but I am pretty sure he tangled with one of the younger raccoons...he has this habit of 'pouncing' them, and while Rocky (the fairly tame old male that feeds here) doesn't let it bother him, the younger 'coons don't really like being bothered. So he wound up getting bit on a front leg/paw. I've been keeping an eye on it for the past three days...there's no bad swelling or abscess, but he doesn't want to use it or put weight on it. However, it is not stopping him from wanting to go outside. And that is fine...I'm letting him out on the lead when it is light out and I can see what he is doing and I know the raccoons aren't out front feeding. But the stubborn idjit wants to go out while it is still dark. And I know him...he's still going to want to mess with the raccoons even though he is at a big disadvantage at the moment. So until it heals, he can't go out when it is still dark outside. But he really wants to...
Damn stubborn goof...

Oh dear! He is still not using that leg? He linps with it or he doesn't put it down at all?

@JolietJake , I hope Scar is healing well by now. It is tough keeping an adventurous heart inside.

@JolietJake , yes, thank goodness it was not worse. Is it healing, aside from him not putting weight on it? I hope he will try to avoid them from now on.

@bluesa It's not abnormally swollen and doesn't appear to be abscessed, just bothers him for now

I'm thinking that he's got some pay back that he wants to share with the baby racoon who inflicted this injury on him. He doesn't seem to be too worse for wear other then for that limp, I think that if he did not want to go outside early like that, then you'd have something to worry about. I hope that he heals soon!

The first day he didn't do much other than lay about 'licking his wounds' but now he's pretty much back to normal

@JolietJake Poor guy, I know that cats love to go out when it's dark, but it's too dangerous for Scar now.

I can see the sky is beginning to lighten up, about 15-20 more minutes and he can go out

If you lived here you would be worried of rabies, the Racoons are carriers, I'm assuming you are one like we who would have a good vet and a shot every one to three years depending on the type of shot.

I'd be a bit more concerned about rabies if it had been a daylight encounter. It's a painful lesson, but I hope he's learned to leave them alone now.

@JolietJake He has just been standing half in and half out the door while I knock out a wasp nest in the barbecue. As if the wasp would be there in the dark anyway!

Not until he can walk on all fours. If he is licking that injured foot all is well.

Cats are funny, they think gettin hurt is just part of the game. BTW, I got a kick outta yer conversation with Scar, he seemed to know exactly what yer sayin.

I'd say Scar wants to get his licks in on the youngster that bit him.

the question is, how can you distract Scar from wanting to spend time outside.

At least the weather is a bit nicer, I have a back window open and he's spending quite a bit of time sitting it in staring at the yard...

I am glad you are watching his wound. He must feel better to be so determined. I do not like for Princess to go out in the dark. We have wildlife here as well and I am sure a fox or coyote would make her into a tasty snack.

Scar is like Rocky Balboa. You can keep beating him down and he gets back into the ring.

I hope he recovers soon and gets back to business. I guess you can spend more time with him than what you usually do to kep him away from any more trouble.
