I thought I was going to be scammed!

I sold my old iPhone on Mercari. I was a little hesitate because the buyer paid my full asking price without negotiating - which is very rare on any platform I sell on. The buyer asked me on 3 different occasions when I was going to ship the phone within a 12 hour time frame. Since the buyer purchased late at night, I told the buyer, I would ship the next morning. Next morning came around, I was asked the time I was going to ship. Each time we communicated, the buyer was prompt at responding until arrival. I tracked the package and it was shown arrived several hours ago. I sent a message asking if the buyer received the phone so I can get my money. *No response* 6 hours later, I received a response and my funds were released. I will get the money in my bank next week. I did record the phone as I packaged just as a precaution because I had horrible customer service with Mercari in the past. I am thankful I was not scammed

Normally on these sites don't you get the money before shipping the item? Or is it held by the site until the recipient receives the product then funds are released to you?

No, not this one. The buyer pays to the site. Site holds on until the buyer releases it. If the buyer does not release the funds within 3 days then you contact the site to release to you. But in those 3 days , anything could happen or they could request a refund.

@Mike197602 Yes, however I had one bad incident with the site in the past. I sold a 'gift card voucher' from an online photo store purchase - where the girl wanted the code urgently so I sent it via private message, as well as in the mail. Upon receiving she said she did not want it anymore. There was no harm in sending it because either way its going to her.... and I wrote clearly the vouchers are not stackable but yet she thought they were. She wanted to cancel when I already shipped the order AND give her the codes. For all I know she could have used it. I chat with support & they said I did my part and not to worry. Later, when she receives the card, support said HER CASE WINS (WTH?) yet I have proof of another support from the team said I did everything right & listed properly. IT was only $8 bucks. If I want the card back I have to pay shipping $4. I did not need them , do not want them but it was annoying to deal with that. So for something $8 bucks... what about a phone for $300+! It was a gamble on my behalf

@infatuatedbby so the buyer does pay and the site deals with any conflicts? Sounds ok.

That's great. Today since I often buy online, sometimes I don't even consult the buyer and then I will place an order. If the seller doesn't ship the goods soon, then I will consult them again. And I don't negotiate the price since I think the price is tagged online and I don't expect it will have a change. But if I buy the same item again and again, then I will ask whether there is a little discount for me

That is very nice of you. Many people I have sold to, always ask if I can lower or negotiate But now I put firm but still many ask.

That will make me rattle if no response is received from the buyer knowing that the package has been received. But I am glad you are not scammed.

Yes, especially when the buyer was prompt originally at responding. Then when I contact the seller, no response for six hours.

I would not use the site anymore if you were scammed in the past or if you had a bad experience with them.

I was scammed for a minor situation of $8. It was a voucher. I clearly stated voucher cannot be combined together, only valid individually online. She told me she wanted the codes so she can make a purchase. I sent her the codes and she told me she didnt read the listing and that she no longer wants them for all i know she could have used them... but i also shipped the voucher too because you have to for proof of shipment. i talked to the customer service, they said not to worry since i clearly listed everything in my description & she was at fault even apologizing. When the time came (voucher arrived to her) she opened a case. And she won EVEN THOUGH support said I was not at fault. I was annoyed, for such a site over $8 bucks.. I took a gamble for my phone and it worked out. I have sold more expensive items and never had a problem there just that $8 - cheap girl!

Is it a cash on delivery basis? It's scary if it is like that, specially if you are the seller.

No. The buyer pays to the site. The site holds the money and releases until the seller receives it. They have 3 days to do so. However buyer could refund if the item isn't as described.

I think it is because I included other accessories with the phone so it was a better deal. And, I had a good reviews of other customers who purchased from me.

@ElusiveButterfly I don't like meeting up with people. Waiting around and then price is agreed upon but they'll negotiate or haggle more. But meeting face to face works. I've done it in the past. Not anymore though :)

The buyer pays to the site. The site holds the money until the buyer releases. But the buyer has an option to return if not as described. Buyer wouldn't get money back until I receive it if they were returning. but I could be scared as in, the buyer sends me back nothing or a product not mine. Luckily it worked out :) Money is released to me and will be direct deposit in my account on Tuesday!
