Two and a half hours

It took two and a half hours to set my husband up for his radiation treatment yesterday. Thankfully now they know what they need to do to get him in and out.
Normally it is going to take about twenty minutes total. Five minutes of that will be radiation.
They have two different machines that can do this treatment. His doctor had them map for both machines. It is lucky he did.
My husband was too long to fit the machine they had intended to use. It took them a while to figure out he just would not fit. Then it took a while to get the other device up and running.
The machine does radiation on the targeted area as well as running a CT scan to make sure the correct area is receiving the treatment. The clinic has machines made by two competing companies.
Of course after that long morning, we went out to eat. And ate too much.
Hubby has twenty seven more treatments. Five days a week, after work.
I hope you had good adventures yesterday.

Yes the first day is the longest, we drove an hour to treatment, was there 30 minutes and drove an hour back daily for 34 treatments.
Is utterly smooth lotion a suggestion for the skin care? that stuff is awesome.

Hubby says he has no skin issues. Those drives will wipe you out for sure. What was the cancer you were treating? My sister had a "skin cancer" that went into salivary glands, then lymph nodes, then bones. You be careful with your blondness. . . okay?

@andriaperry I will have him look out for this. We may use some calendula or comfrey salve.

@GardenGerty He was treated for a tumor in his lung but the chemo helped the skin cancer problems he has.
After so many radiation treatments the area of treatment will become red like a sunburn, that is what the lotion is for.

The first time with most anything takes extra time. Bet you are glad that one is over. Now seven more.

He does not notice any difference. I think the extra driving is going to be difficult after a while. I am glad we should be done in slightly over one month.

@marsha32 He goes in a little early to work as well, so he can leave in time. So his day is about an hour and a half longer than usual.

@GardenGerty That's quite a drive then to do it again to go back home after the treatment too.

Yes, he was diagnosed in November with prostate cancer. It will be okay, and we are glad that there is insurance beyond his medicare. He is able to work and everything.

This is not supposed to make him sick at all. Chemo often makes people sick, though.

I never knew what the treatment was for tuberculosis. I think hubby will do okay. We are trying to eat healthy and get plenty of sleep. The extra driving will make him tired, I am sure.

Some people have said he will not notice anything at all. I think the extra driving will tire him out. I am glad he will have the weekends to rest.

The very first I suppose needs adjustment and therefore time consuming. I am sure the rest will not be a hassle.

Bob was diagnosed in November with prostate cancer. It is in less than a fourth of the prostate, and not all samples had cancer cells. He should be alright.

Sorry to hear that your husband is dealing with radiation and hope things go well for him. 5 days a week is rough but at least it will get the treatments over quicker

Yes, we have been waiting on this process for a while, not really wanting to plan a vacation or anything, not knowing when we would be done.

Kind of reminded me of my tuberculosis shot. I can't remember how long but it was daily injection for more than a month.
How is your husband coping up with that?
