I need to clear up a misunderstanding about myself and about myLot

United States
April 7, 2017 9:08am CST
Yesterday I started two post - one was about condiments and the other about how you handle typos here at myLot. Both posts received a high number of comments. A myLot member wrote about me, was very surprised to see how many responses/comments I received. That was very nice of that person to acknowledge me in that way. There are many others who receive high numbers also so it's not just me! Now to the misunderstanding: One comment on the post that discussed my 'high' numbers said that it's because 'she (me) is here 24/7 all day'. That is absolutely not true. Everyone who knows me knows I spend a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon on the computer. In those hours I am also going back and forth to other sites and reading e-mails. I am not here 24/7 - I have a life - a husband - a dog - a home to take care of. I cook, clean, eat, shop, sleep and spend many hours not on the computer at all. Next - let me explain to those who don't understand how myLot works - you don't have to be here to received responses/comments. When I got online here this morning I saw how many people commented on those two posts while I was in dreamland. At least half of the comments were from overnight. I got a lot responses and comments on those two posts for one reason - the title of each. It is the title of a post that draws people in to read (or not read). Once you get enough comments etc. to hit the Hot Discussion or Top Rated lists then you get even more readers and more comments. It's not magic and it's not being here 24/7. I had to leave for a haircut this morning but I knew when I got back I had to clear this up. I do put in time and I do spent time here but I use that time wisely. Photo from Pixabay

So well said, it is not necessary to be here all the day to get many responses, but it is important not to ignore those who leave comments. I think that too many like to receive comments and never dare to reply back.

@AbbyGreenhill I know, when you get plenty of responses it takes forever to reply back.

@LadyDuck Then when you reply they replay and then you replay back and on and on!

I replied back to every single one of them - it takes a lot of time, which is why posting more than 2 a day isn't the way to roll.

Nicely written Abby. A person does not have have to be here 24/7 to get responses. It is all in the discussions that you write. Both topics were very good and had a lot of interests from others.

Thanks Laurel. I try to think things thru before posting. I don't have normal family things to write about like your grandchildren, so I make do with other topics!

You post in an effective manner, and that means people will come to your discussions. Most of us also know that when we comment you acknowledge it, and so it seems worthwhile to come to your discussions.

Thanks, I feel that when people take time to comment it is proper to acknowelge and comment back. It might just be a few words or a lot of words, but I do comment back.

I can't believe someone even said that. I took that personally and it wasn't even about me so I don't blame you for clearing it up. We all know you have a life offline and many of us know we don't have to be here all the time.

You are correct. Title draws them in and content makes them stay and respond. I come here during my evening/night time mostly. I might check in other times but I am not here 24/7 even if I am logged in 24/7. Those are two different things. I will do a post at night and wake up to about 12-16 responses usually. Absolutely no need to be here all the time. But yes definitely need to be active the few hours you are here by interacting and answering back in proper way. Not just one word. Interaction means to communicate. I can't communicate with a single emoji lol

I don't know why some people can assume that. Surely some might be here but not 24/7 every one needs to sleep, eat and do things in the real world too. Someone also assumed that to me too, but it just happened that when I'm online the person was also online so we commented back and forth the few times. And there were times too that I don't off my computer. I just let it because I sleep for 1 to 2 hours and do my work here and check my messages and other things at the same time.

I think the key is a good subject, title and of course connecting with people here on myLot. It does not have to be a 24/7 operation but an effort must be made.

Thank you - I learned from the old Associated Content days the importance of titles. At least here I can make them a little 'off color' .... couldn't do that there!

The title does help. I agree, but I don't think it's the only reason posts get a lot of responses. It helps if the writer has built up a rapport with the readers, as some of us will read anything that certain people post.

Your titles are so interesting. I find that they draw in in every time. That being said, you are also one of the ones that comment, like, and communicate with others. That along with your titles and writing of the posts are what makes you a leader of the pack here on myLot. At least, that's my opinion.

Thanks, I know most of us 'get it'....but when I read the comment this morning and then had to go out I thought and thought about it and realized that others probably think the same way - especially newer people.

A title is importnat in this type of situation there are many options to read but if some jump out at you that's where you head first.

@sallypup I only go once/month for a trim. If I cut it I would not be able to leave the house or too many would fall over laughing.

The title tends to draw readers in....then a good photo helps and if you have decent content you can expect a reasonable number of comments. Sometimes they come fast and furious....other times you wake up in the morning and know you have a lot of comments to respond to.
