Anyone for a scone?

My pumpkin post generated a lot of comment as there was much discussion and debate about when such a thing is a pumpkin and when it is a squash. I decided it seems to be mostly the colour that decides so yellow and orange fruit are pumpkins and other colours are squash, except for the butternut which is yellow but known as a squash.Oh well, there always has to be an exception. Anyway, all the pumpkin/squash talk got me motivated so we've had pumpkin soup for lunch and now here are the pumpkin scones I made a while ago. There are not as 'orange' as some but they're tasty and that's the main thing. Shall I save you one – or maybe two?

Those scones look great. You might have to call them 'biscuits' for the Americans though.

I refuse to call them 'biscuits'! I'm already calling butternut pumpkins 'squashes' and that's as far as I'm prepared to go. Anyway they're scones in the UK and here. I think the US 'biscuit' is very slightly different but I'm not sure of that.

They look delicious, I have never had a pumpkin scone, I have only eaten pumpkin in bread, muffins or pies. My husband likes squash soup, but I've not succeed in making any, he's enjoyed his while we've been dining out. I'll be happy if you save me a scone.

I'll pop one in the freezer for you. I sometimes have pumpkin soup when we eat out too although I object to paying what to me is a horrific price just for a bowl of soup.

Keep it simple, pumpkin is a type of squash, the squash is a fruit and it grows on a vine. Now what makes them different (besides a different colour) is the stem., the one of the pumpkin is stiff and spiky, all the seeds, both squash and pumpkin are edible, but those of pumpkins have a more nutty flavor. Save a scone for me.

@JudyEv Save the seeds, I always do, but I usually plant them because I like to pick up the flowers of the pumpkins, they are delicious coated with a light batter and fried.

Thanks for the extra information. The stems of these are stiff and spiky so I guess it's a pumpkin. I should really save the seeds and dry them. And I think I'll need to make another batch of scones.

I'd love a scone....I guess I'll be making my own. Even if I could leave right this minute, it wouldn't be fresh when I fan ally arrived to enjoy it. (It would also be one of the most expensive snacks ever)

I have not heard of either pumpkin soup or scones. We only prepare dry dish with pumpkin with lots of tomatoes, onions and ginger in it. Scones look yummy and I just cannot resist to take one.

@JudyEv Pumpkin dishes are generally not available in restaurants, as it is not favorite of majority of people who go out for dining. Thanks. I am waiting for my scone to arrive.

I have often noticed pumpkin in Indian dishes. You don't often find it in restaurants here otherwise. I'll save you a scone.

May I have 5?? I love pumpkin .... ever try empanadas? Oh, those look like biscuits or dinner rolls, somehow I always thought scones would be more like the flaky pastry shaped a little differently.

So all this time I've been eatin scones @JudyEv ? Do you ever make empanadas? Back in the old days when mom would take us to Mexico .... we're only a few miles from Juarez .... she'd buy them for us, they usually have all kinds of jellies and jams in them but my favorite was the pumpkin.

@JudyEv I love it Judy..though it is too rich for some tastes. Yes well, one would not need jam and cream for pumpkin scones.

Pumpkin cheesecake? That sounds as bad as banana sandwiches! Really? Cheesecake? I thought it was only the Americans who turned pumpkin into pies but I've never heard of cheesecake.
