How many moms do you contact on Mothers Day? And a Happy Mothers Day to you!

My mom and step-mom have long since passed on, but I still make sure I contact certain moms in my life. First is my 94-year-old Auntie, who has been a guiding force for me (and a good friend) over the past several years. Heck, over my entire life! Then comes my "faculty mom," my Academic Advisor at UCSB, who was instrumental in getting my career going. And then there are my various mom friends, one of whom I'll visit later in the day. How do you decide who to call, who to email, and who to visit? We all have lots of moms in our lives! Do you manage to avoid the commercialization of Mothers Day?

I have only ONE mother. I loved my mother-in-law, but it was up to my husband to wish her a Happy Mother's Day, I would consider an offense to my mother to with Happy Mother's Day to another woman who is not my natural mother.

Well, my mom passed away when I was nine, so I got my "mom energy" from others after that. And I do give an email wish to some of my same-age friends.

@LadyDuck Yes, it changes life. But I did have time to internalize the affection and the values of both parents. That's a good thing.

@TheHorse ......Removed. I had said my good wishes to most already. My granddaughter is pregnant with her third child. Finally the girl she wanted. So I had to talk to her.

Yep, it's kind of hard for me to decide where to "draw the line." Maybe I'll use my famous crying baby photo for my generic Happy Mothers Day Facebook post.

I am not very close to my mother but I did wish her happy mothers day. I did also text @CoralLevang and wish her one as well, other than that there was just one other friend from high school that i wished happy mothers day too.

I was delighted to receive a text yesterday from a young Irish friend who considers me his new Zealand mum. Otherwise, no, I didn't contact any, but after reading this I need to think about it next year. I used to contact an elderly neighbour once we'd moved away from her.

@TheHorse hearing from those kids would probably be the best contacts of all. Ypu've reminded me of when a handsome young man came up to me on a busy street and hugged me. I didn't recognise him, but it turned out he was a former pupil, much better looking now tha he had been then

I think everyone appreciates it when they're on our mind. I love it when I hear from former kid clients on Fathers Day.

Sadly my mother is no longer with us but I wish her Happy Mothers day nevertheless. Our mothering Sunday was back in March so no celebrations here in the UK.

Ah, and I've just read that in Israel, there is now a Family Day that celebrates moms, dads, and family. I wonder how "universal" Mothers Day is.

Nice picture of your Auntie. I contacted my daughter and wished her a Happy Mother's Day, then I posted a Mother's Day status on Facebook. That covered the rest including my sister and sister-in-law and my niece, whose little one will be a year old this month.

Sometimes responding is hard work. Second attempt. My two daughters and my daughter in law are moms. We've wished the three of them a happy Mother's Day. Then we popped by to visit my mother and my mother inlaw. They are almost neighbours. (Same corner of the same cemetery.

Sounds like a full day. Were your mom and mom-in-law close in life?

@TheHorse no. They saw a fair amount of each other because of shared grandchildren. My mother inlaw lived with us for a number of years, so that also increased the frequency they saw each other. If not for our marriage, I doubt they would even have met. The cemetery is part of an international group (Memorial Gardens). Their plots were originally purchased in two totally different areas of the province and transferred when my parents and my inlaws relocated.
