Who is Stanley and why is he sending my wife knives??

Anne made this matter of fact comment this morning, "Did I tell you that Stanley sent me another knife?" My first thought was "Who's Stanley? Why would he send you a knife? Wait, another knife?" "What was she going to do with all those knives??" I remained calm, though, and said, "Another knife? Stanley?" It turned out that she had bought a Stanley brand utility knife at Home Depot, but was unable to get it apart to make the blades work. Looking online for directions, she left a message and their customer service said they would send another one. I was somewhat relieved to hear this mundane explanation about Stanley and his knives.

I figured I had better find a logical reason for these sharp instruments being shipped.

The way it came up in our conversation was pretty funny, so I decided to write about it. Thanks for reading!

I knew that Stanley is a brand, I have a Stanley cutter. I do not like the folding knives with a lock, I am not very good in using them.

Stanley is the brand name of the knife. You should always trust your better half.

I know the brand name, but we had not discussed it until she mentioned it with that remark. It roused my curiosity for sure.

I wouldn't want some dude named Stanley poking around at my wife. One of my kid clients gave me a knife that looks like Stanley's. I think it had been confiscated from his older (and more troubled) brother, and he wanted it out of his house. It looks like it could do some serious damage. It sits in my desk drawer.
