I broke up with my Dentist & Dental Hygienist today!

United States
June 15, 2017 10:18pm CST
I have been going to the same dentist & dental hygienist facility for as long as I remember. Now, that my insurance does not cover my dentist spot, I have to search for a new one. My upcoming appointment to my new dentist spot is in August! Today, I called to cancel my upcoming appointment and asked if they can send my files over. They will mail me a release form to sign off. Have you ever broke up with your dental / doctor due to your insurance coverage?

Yikes NO, I could never break up with my dentist... I have been going to the same Dentist for 38 years. nope not happening.. doctors on the other hand.. blah. I had to change them due to insurance once.. but then I got this guy that frankly sucked. I have asthma- had it since I was about 12 or 13 and this dr. was like trying to wean me off medication I needed to breathe.. .WTH is wrong with him? At a visit he is telling me he is not going to give me refills of my inhaler as I need them.. but only every few months or something.. at this point I went thru inhalers probably every 2 weeks.. OMG I left his office so upset and stressed, I was crying.. wondering how the hell was I supposed to get the medication to BREATHE.. that I had another asthma attack just stressing about it. I got mad on the drive home and immediately called the insurance company and said CHANGE MY PCP RIGHT NOW.. i am never going to this dr again.. and they went thru a list of available doctors I could choose in my area. Grrr. not a big fan of Doctors. But I love my Dentist!

Wow! I am surprised your dentist is not retired yet. I hope your dentist won't retire yet either. I am quite the opposite, changed doctors a lot but never dentists. But however currently new plan, I changed another doctor (whom I like but she's pregnant and going to be on maternity leave for a couple of months. I just started doing to her last month!) My new dentist visit is in August.

Yes, I have a separate insurance for dental. It is dental insurance. Also, there is vision insurance, also separate from health insurance.

@LadyDuck Wow you would think they would grant you dental. Do you pay dental out of pocket then?

@infatuatedbby Vision is covered by our medicare. We were unable to have a separate dental insurance because you are allowed to have one if you start the plant before the age of 50. When we moved to Switzerland we both we were over 50, so no dental insurance for us.

I broke up with my health insurance because they don't cover the dental and charges even higher than paying it on cash. Now I am happy with my new health card.

Not due to insurance, due to moving. Our dentist is not in our network but i'm there so often they basically take what ins. pays.

I've been on the same insurance plan for over 15 years, so I haven't had to break up with any of my medical or dental providers yet. However, a couple of years ago my dentist retired and he sold his practice to a new dentist. I was a little worried at first that I may not like the new dentist, but felt very relieved (and excited) when I found out that my new dentist was a very personable and beautiful woman! I very much enjoy going to see her to get my teeth cleaned!

Oh yes, my dentist retired too. But they had a new member at the practice which has been my dentist for many years now. I had the same thoughts too. Well, let's see how my new dentist will be able to top that. My current one is on the A-List , Top ranked in my city.. this new one is not.....

I go to different dentists. Last time was my cousin's wife. Now that they moved to Chicago, I found a new dentist just blocks away from my apartment.
