Trapped in the kitchen for over 7 hours

United States
June 16, 2017 6:42am CST
Yes, I spent most of yesterday trapped in the kitchen. Of course I planned ahead and had my computer and camera with me. And of the three bathrooms we had access to one so all was well for the most part. The carpet guys arrived a little after 10:00 am and left about 5:15. It had been a while since we had wall-to-wall carpet installed and I forgot how much work is involved! They worked hard I give them a lot of credit. They put most of our living room furniture on the front porch, which would have been fine except when a line of storms came rolling through - they had to get it back inside and it all fund it's way to the kitchen. I had planned on making a turkey (meat) loaf for dinner, but I couldn't get to the stove or the oven - cooking was out! Although I am not a fan of Subway it is close so that's what we had for dinner. The carpet looks (and feels) wonderful. Quite a difference and I'm glad we finally went ahead with this even though the house is still in disarray. The photo is mine. I will take some of the finished product once we get everything back in place.

Is that a picture of your kitchen? I don't mind being in there for a long time. It seems so cozy. I could even sleep there. LOL.

@AbbyGreenhill It looks so nice and cozy in your kitchen that if you put a sofa in there, you can easily fall asleep.

I miss having carpet on our floors. We now have laminate flooring and I do love how easy it is to clean. However, I will miss that softness under my barefeet.

@AbbyGreenhill I love a nice soft carpet. However, with 2 cats in the house it isn't a good thing to have. We have had problems with fleas in the past that infested our carpeting. Not easy to get rid of them when they are in the carpets.

@ElusiveButterfly For 14 years we had a lab and now 6 years with this one - never had one flea so I'm not worrying abut that thank goodness.

It is nice and soft, like cotton candy. Still putting things away. I wish I could have hired someone to do that part too!

I think a comfortable kitchen would be the best part of the house to get trapped in - but then - the storms came.

@marlina and don't forget the bathroom! We had access to my husband's tv room, and we could get out to the backyard but with the heat and then the storms it was better to be inside.

Hope you like your new carpet. That chair in your kitchen is big! Is it for a table in your living room/dining room?

I have always been a fan of tiled floor but the one i have in my new apartment is no good. One of the reasons why i'm moving out. I hope to see your carpeted place when it's all done.

Thanks....we did it for a few reasons - whoever finished the hardwood floors didn't do a good job and Ruby has scratched the badly...so the carpet is now hiding a lot of those scratches. We have tile in the bathrooms and in winter your feet do get cold LOL!

It is nice that you will enjoy carpet seeing as this is what you want @AbbyGreenhill There is no point of living without the flooring you enjoy if you can make a change.

Love the photo, nice kitchen. I am not a fan of carpet but I have it in my family room, I'd like to have it torn up and put tiles down, or a dog proof carpet. But I don't think there is such a thing..

The carpet that we just replaced (area rug) was dog proof - freise or however you spell it. I hate hardwood - it's so scratched since whoever finished it did it wrong.

It is always a mess to have flooring laid while the house is being lived in. Dont over work yourself .... dont want an injury.

My husband got his big feet caught in my power cord and fell - it was in slow motion I didn't know if it was sad or funny.
