Happy Independence Day

I hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day. We watched the runners in Atlanta. They were warned to drink plenty of water and rest when they needed to. It was so hot today I wouldn't be surprised if some had fallen out with sunstroke but I didn't hear that anyone did. We didn't go out in all the traffic. It's too hard to find parking on a Holiday. My daughter in law called. They were finishing grilling with my grandchildren and my other son. They had grilled steaks and roasted corn. Sounded delicious. Everybody was getting ready to leave. I asked her what she and my granddaughter planned to do the rest of the day. She told me the two of them were going scooter pootin. My better half wanted to know what they were doing. Going scooter phootln, I replied. Then I had to explain what scooter pootin was. If you're from the south you've probably heard the expression. He's been here for thirty years but I still have to explain some of our southern expressions. If you're not familiar with that expression, it means going out for nothing in particular, looking to see what may come along. Maybe going to the mall, maybe a movie. It tickled me trying to explain. I don't know if he fully understood. We did go out but in the opposite direction of heavy traffic. How many of you knew the meaning of scooter pootin?

@celticeagle You wouldn't be likely to know the expression. It isn't said often even by southerners. Its dying out.

Nice that you've experienced the southern life. People here used to use that expression more than now but I still hear it occasionally.

Not me. Very interesting term. I had a good day yesterday. Didn't do much. Only went out once to do laundry at my daughter's. She wasn't home. It was just me and the dog. She managed to get two dog treats from me.

oh, so that is what the phrase ;scooter pootin' means. here, we sometimes call that 'malling' or 'window-shopping' if the person is going to the mall for no apparent reason at all.

Cool, now I know a new word... I just got back, and borrowing that new word, I am going to scooter pootin too (that is, if I don't end up snoring my head off first ...)
