The view from Mt. Tabor, Portland, Oregon & a six mile walk day

With Anne out of town due to her brother in law's death, I decided on Sunday to spend a day or two with my daughter in Portland. I got there at about 9 AM on Monday and she and the Chihuahua were both glad to see me. She was off work and had an appointment in northwest Portland so we had a great brunch and walked all over that end of town until it was time for her appointment.
We had lunch, then with her little dog walked from her place on 45th to about 68th, then climbed the hill to the beautiful Mt. Tabor city park. The hill, an old cinder cone from volcano days, rises pretty steeply about 400 feet from the surrounding streets. There are lots of trails, views, tennis courts and picnic areas.
Then, of course, we had to walk down and back to her house. My step counter registered over 13000 that day, but it was not too hot fortunately and we rested some after that.

I am doing about 2.5 to 3 miles a day for the last two weeks and hope to keep it up.

Sounds like you had a great day and got a little exercise in as well! I assume the Mt. Tabor is an extinct volcano and not just sleeping?

@JamesHxstatic Are there any active volcanoes where you live? Are you ever worried one is going to blow unexpectedly like Mt. St. Helens did?

Well, I did not have too, but did for several blocks on the way back. What's a dogfather for?

@JamesHxstatic Certainly dogfathers should carry their little ones when they get tired. Well done!

It's a great area leading uphill on residential streets with beautiful old houses before you get to the real hill and the park.

Wow, that is quite a walk! Makes my feet hurt just to think of it. That was some expensive real estate you two walked through. Beautiful, too! I once attended an opera performance there at Mt Tabor.
Back in my salad days I once urban hiked from NW Portland to Wood Village. Ah those were the days!

Yes, there are some beautiful houses on the way up there. I looked at that link to get the height. It seems higher on that steep part.

I've done several mile walks the past week. I'm trying to win a pair of cycling socks from the Sock Guy.

I hope you make it. Is it based on walking time?

@JamesHxstatic - Actually, it's based by distance. I have to do 117 of them. I'm at 11% at the moment.

We did and so did the dog. I have been walking enough the last few weeks that it was not too tiring. I did another three miles today.

That walk sounds peaceful and delightful at the same time. I've wondered about those little dogs- are they good for walking trails? Is a 2 to 5 mile walk too much for such a little guy? I love a dog who can walk trails. Our little Heeler sure had a good time on our last steep expedition though she got tired. She is middle aged now so that is an excuse.

The pup did well, she rarely gets tired. I did carry her for a few blocks coming back since it was getting so warm. My daughter thought I was spoiling her.
