A friend of mine and I were chatting about our trip to "Maropeng" The Cradle of humankind about two years ago, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It took us a 40 minute car trip.
But then we got to have such fun at the Visitor Centre. We saw fossils and learnt about "Mrs Ples" she was discovered by "Robert Broom in 1947" . We went on an underground boat ride that took us through an interesting adventure.
We were all ladies in our little boat and we had handbags and round the one bend we saw this water pouring from above. I won't tell you what happened, in case you ever go on that boat ride.
There was also this bridge we had to walk over and it seemed as if it was spinning round and round really fast! We survived that! We ended the day with lunch.
If you ever come to South Africa try to visit "Maropeng". You'll have a fun time for sure, we did.

@ridingbet , thank you. Yes, we do get very hot summers and even our winter now is mild. So we don't have much greenery.

Sounds like a fun and educational experience. Historical places such as museums or other landmarks I always find very interesting! I could spend hours upon hours in those kinds of places.

@bluesa Yes, would enjoy it all. I went to a place called Longwood Gardens in the wintertime after Thanksgiving holiday. Saw wonderful ice sculptures there. It's just amazing how they do it. I enjoy those types of things. History, art, science, all good

That sounds like so much fun. I totally love ancient history, and the cradle of mankind sounds like my kind of stop. I doubt I'll ever get to Africa, my mother had to take so many pills and shots when she went to Kenya, I probably could not take some of them because of my allergies.

@vandana7 , there are human related fossils, the most famous being "Mrs Ples" . There are science games, caves, the underground boat ride that I mention, a very interesting bridge that I also mentioned. It is fun and history rolled into one

I have to admit that I have never heard of this place and know very little of SA at all. Everything about SA seems to be centred around Nelson Mandela or sport and nothing about the land or its history.
