Do you REALLY read the 'Terms & Conditions' when joining a website?

And I don't mean 'glance' at them...I mean do you actually read the entire thing? I know many members here don't read them, and then express displeasure when something happens that is mentioned in the Terms...such as myLot can remove a discussion for any reason (or for no reason, technically) and that they are not under any obligation to inform the user of it being deleted or of the reason for it being deleted. But at least with myLot you still 'own' the material you post here. myLot doesn't assume ownership nor control over your posts. They are still completely yours. I just did some snooping at LiteracyBase and their Terms section states: "The material that are used on the site, including but not only limited to text, pictures, videos, designs, logos, trademarks, music, sound, name, etc. are the property of LiteracyBase. You agree not to change any material, use or re-use it, sell, publish or broadcast, or activities of similar in nature without prior written approval and permission of LiteracyBase." Once you post something there, it is no longer yours. Now, I'm not going to state that most writing sites are like this...but it would be a good idea to completely read the Terms of any site before posting. Or you may find out too late that you agreed to things you had no idea you agreed to.

I tend to glance through in order to glean the general regulations. Of course, if I then enrol I read the entire rules and regulations.

I haven't been a member of many over the years, but I've always taken a careful look at who owns/controls what I post.

@JolietJake I do not really consider the material that I submit is worth maintaining copyright to.

Maybe that is what prevents me from being active somewhere else. I would have to read and understand the terms and conditions there. Might even want to read the frequently asked questions (faq) as well. We have to review periodically because they can change them at any time, as well.

I go over the ones here fairly often just to make sure I am up-to-date on them.

I don't know. I don't read many time but still I came to know about it later. Isn't Literacy Base stop paying users? I have read it somewhere on the news. So yes they are taking but not giving.

Yes, it seems they have. I am not a member there, but I saw someone asking how to delete their articles there, so I checked the Terms of the site and it appears once you publish them, you no longer control them so you can't delete them.

@JolietJake He he.. Yes there is no option to delete. I was member but I am not active since long. Though I have got two payments from them in past. But then I got bored with them.

I'm a very compliant person, so I do read the terms of any site before joining. And I try to refresh my memory every so often just to stay on the right side of the rules. I guess that's why I can only handle 1 or 2 sites at a time.

I guess some people don't understand not all sites have the same rules...they join one and think the next they join will be just like the first

So many people do not read them. I don't read every word but I do go through and see what they expect. I have learned my lesson.

If I like that website, I would read (like myLot) ... but I usually ended up not liking most of the websites that I sign up for.

@JolietJake that is why they were not able to get all of their articles.

I'll be honest, I never read the terms and conditions. It's good to know about the differences though, thanks for educating us :)

It never hurts. I see many discussions posted asking things that people would know the answers to if they had read them.

I always check and I never join a site when I see that all what you post become "THEIR" property. I am sure that many users never take a moment to check what they agreed.
