I should have known that everything was running too smoothly.

Since undergoing my first 3 day chemotherapy session a few weeks ago, everything has been positive and promising.
A few days ago I noticed that my hair was combing out now, but that did not concern me. However, shortly afterwards I developed a problem swallowing. This seemed to compound rapidly and by yesterday it was painful to try to swallow anything, including liquids.
My brother telephoned the Christie Hotline, who in turn contacted me. 30 minutes later an ambulance arrived at my door and I was admitted to hospital again.
Fortunately my throat issue appears to have been solved and I may get to go home tomorrow, but there is now talk about delaying my next chemotherapy by a week.

I´m so sorry! Chemo has unpredictably side effects as every person is different. I shed off all my hair. In fact, my best friends came to shave my head before that happened. y male friend, witty as he is, told me that I should be wearing stripped pajamas
I´m glad that your problems solved easily. In my case, after the first 2 chemos, I had to have some shots to manage my lack of defenses.

@Asylum I had it cut before I had a hair problem. Now, years later, I do have one. My hair never grew back as it was.

Chemotherapy is very powerful stuff. I am glad your brother was able to get you someone to look into your throat swelling and hurting.

I am so sorry you have developed a few complications. After the first two sessions for my sister in law, she too had a few complications. This delayed her sessions also. This is normal. They want your health perfect before they will administer the tretment again. Please take care and hope all is well with you.

I am glad you acted fast. Its okay if you take a break with chemo, the doctor told Tony he could break if it got to be to much.
To save your feelings just shave the hair, that is what Tony did and I have never known any man love his hair as much as he did, its a few months since the last chemo and all of his hair is back.
I am glad you`re okay

Sorry to hear of the throat problem. I have a scratchy throat from the smoke in the area so I know how uncomfortable it can be. Glad they are able to keep you improved after these onsets.

sounds like they are just being cautious in waiting - the hair loss at least is only to be expected

I wondered if you would develop any problems after you started the chemotherapy treatments.
Losing your hair while getting chemo is fairly normal. (You could tell anyone you believe is staring at your scalp that your "beast" needed more sunlight on the "roof" so he could "roar" louder! Then watch them to see if they understand the joke!)
And some of the reason I am DaddyEvil just leaked out again! Sorry!
I thought I was keeping that contained fairly well for you lately...

)
By chance, was the throat issue caused by the beginning stages of an allergic reaction? (Both times the doctors tried to give me chemo mixes my throat swelling closed was the main reason for me spending days in the hospital! That is also the reason I refused to let them give me a third chemo treatment. The second treatment had been cut to half strength. I wasn't willing to go through more stays in the hospital even if they cut the dosage again.)

@DaddyEvil eh In often seems odd to me that a doctor does not always inform us of any potential cause, which simply tempts us to think of the worst possible scenario.

@Asylum I see... it is totally understandable to feel scared when something unexpected happens to you.
I understand "seriously scary"! I had an incident that was also seriously scary, compounded by the hospital's unbending rules.
Hmmm... I dislike playing one-upmanship games. (I wrote about that incident and then deleted it. It was not germane to this discussion.)
It is too bad the doctor(s) didn't tell you their opinions on what caused your problem. I would like to have known.

I hope it wasn't an allergic reaction. I am glad however that they were able to resolve it.

@BelleStarr A good point because allergy to nuts tends to have a similar effect on many people.

What caused that and how did they remedy it? When my father was on chemo he lost hair first, then developed a rash all over his face, it eventually went away but I don't remember how long it lasted. There are many side effects to chemo...but it's necessary so stick with the plan.
