Last year one of my neighbors landed in the hospital because of a bite from a brown recluse spider. They ended up taking some of the muscle in the area of her leg where she was bitten leaving a horrible scar.
Since then she has had problems with infections and is frequently ill. Last week she was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
We have since found out that her whole body is filled with infection. They have been trying to get the infection to leave her but are not having much luck. It doesn't look good.
She had been on so many antibiotics this past year that seem to have done little of nothing. We are hoping she can be helped soon. She is now on a respirator.
Did you know that the bite of a brown recluse could be so deadly?

How awful. I have heard some terrible stories of bites inflicted by this spider. They are aggressive and do damage. We lived in a little apartment for a while years ago and had these big brown spiders. I called a bug expert/exterminator and he told me what to look for to see if they are recluse. Luckily they weren't. Sure were big and scary. I don't like spiders. If they can't get rid of the infections maybe they need to get her immune system stronger. I hope this lady gets a miracle.

She is not responding well to treatment. For the last year they have been doing little of nothing to really help her. She got the antibiotics and all but I do wonder why they didn't try something else when they saw they weren't helping but for very short periods of time. She does need a miracle.

@HazySue .........I wonder if they felt she didn't have much of a chance. Perhaps they found she other serious issues in her body. Hope she gets her miracle.

I have no idea that spiders can be that dangerous. I'm not really familiar with the different types of spiders except the tarantulas.

I know that the Brown Recluse is not a nice spider to be bitten by (but then, is any spider's bite 'nice'?). Thank goodness we have no venomous spiders in the UK!
It sounds as though the spider bite was just a trigger for a whole lot of other things which were probably wrong with her immune system. Spider bites are not usually infectious (in the sense that they don't usually contain microbes or viruses) but they do have poisons which can challenge the immune system and, if she was already debilitated, could be the last straw.
I do hope that they find a solution and that she will recover.

I know that it can be deadly, but I thought that it was in a short term basis. If the doctors caught the problem in time, it could be fine.

Oh that sounds very neglectful on the docs part.
The whole body filled with infection and they only just noticed.
Poor woman.

Yes, this is not news to us. What is sad is that those who are treating this don't know what to do next!

I'm so sorry for your friend. The brown recluse is very deadly. A few years ago at a grocery store, I felt a pin prick on my ankle, thinking it was a sand spur. A short time later my foot started swelling. I went to the doctor quickly and got started on antibiotics. He felt sure it was a brown recluse, but thank God I responded to treatment. Although I got to a point where half of my leg was swollen and would have been hospitalized if I had not started to improve. I hope your neighbor will recover.
I know those type of spiders like to hide in closets, under piles of material, dark basements and they're not that big and scary looking, but are so dangerous.
