Dad called them the cardboard mountains

I've been fascinated with the mountains in Las Cruces NM ever since I got a drivers license. I recall dad always calling them the cardboard mountains but officially they are the Organ mountains. I took the above shot in 1998 or so but I'll never be able to get another shot like this one as the area in the front of the shot has been developed and is now a suburb. Can you tell how short the vegetation is? There are no tall trees in this region.

Those are some beautiful mountains and a great photo too. Things change so much sometimes and we would like them to stay like that forever.

@rebelann Progress can ruin so many nice things and I love the unspoiled look of some places I remember but sadly they all changed.

@rebelann Your comment reminds me of my deep sadness about what happened to the grand farm house that I knew as a kid. Why was there the need to burn it down plus its lovely old red barn??? I do not have the heart to drive by that property when I am in that area. Makes my gut ache.

Thank you. NM is an interesting state, if I didn't have cats I'd take Ally and travel all over it.

That is a beautiful photo. I've never been to New Mexico, but this is something I would love to see for myself.

Thank you. New Mexico is called the land of Enchantment and these mountains are only part of the many interesting things you might want to see.

@rebelann It is happening everywhere. I hate seeing it but there isn't much that can be done about it. Most people forget about the beauty cause they are to busy wanting to make a buck.

It's full of rocks, I wonder if there was any one that has ever lived there. And it's a beautiful photo.

When he first saw them he commented that they looked like they'd been cut out of cardboard then painted. I never saw them that way but my perception is totally different. Thank you, glad you like my shot.

It's because of the altitude, we also have no vegetation on high altitude. I have loved visiting New Mexico.

@rebelann The RC sisters taught us how to make the background for Christmas Nativity Scene from scrunching up old newspaper or brown paper, then sprayed it with certain stuff... Those mountains reminded me strongly of one we did, quite successful too.
