Touch wood - all good on the health front

I’ve tried hard to lose a bit of weight over the last few years – just trying to eat a bit less and a bit better. I wondered how I’d go in France with the beautiful food that is so readily available. I’ve been eating more bread than usual not to mention the odd scrumptious thing that I’ve been unable to resist. We also had to bring a heap load of Vince’s tablets – enough for four months. He also bought his test kit so he could keep an eye on his sugar levels as he has Type 2 diabetes. Since we’ve been here, he’s been having jam (jelly) on his baguette every morning, mainly because we haven’t been able to buy any Vegemite. I’m pleased to be able to report that the news is good on both fronts. Before I did my zipline ride I had to be weighed and I’ve put on maybe a pound or two so that’s really good news. And after a bit of nagging (okay, quite a lot of nagging) Vince finally tested his sugar and it’s as good as it’s ever been. Must be the extra walking we’ve been doing.

I'm so glad I did this. I would have been regretting it for ever if I hadn't taken the opportunity.

@JudyEv When we were in Catalina recently, we saw people on the ziplines there, we can only imagine being on it (we are waiting for little son to get bigger) . . . but you did it . A lot of walking is a good thing . . . but when on vacation, I just tend to eat more or more of the foods I normally don't eat .

It was a lot of fun. You do a lot of walking when you're a tourist - and having the motor-home we mostly have to park at least a short distance from the various attractions.

i got goosebumps looking at your picture but i love it! did you not pack any vegemite at all or you've used it all up? either way, all the walking and hiking did seem to help so that's great.

It is great fun once you make that initial step off terra firma. We didn't bring any Vegemite with us. We should have. Apparently you can get it in health food shops in Ireland but we didn't see any of them.

You are a far braver person than me!!!! I would be far more willing to watch a zip line than to ride on one.

@judyev It really sucks that we have to watch what we eat and deny ourselves good things to keep well. I wish I was more disciplined, but on the other hand I'm glad I'm not.

@xFiacre And I've told many on here - because you never know when your number might be up, you should always eat your dessert first!

There has to be a middle road there somewhere. It's a pretty dull life if you abstain from all the good stuff.

It was great fun and the first one was about 505 metres so you really had time to enjoy the 'flying'.

Nice picture you got there...Yes I think the walking helped you boost up your body resistance and loose down your sugar intake level..Glad to know you had a healthy and happy vacation

I don't really know how high the zipline was. It went for 505 metres from the top of a hill to a point a bit lower than the base of the viaduct.

@JudyEv Here, we have the option to buy at Generics Pharmacies, where they have other brands of the medicines and are cheaper.

You look fit and healthy! Walking is really nice. My husband who is also diabetic walks about four kilometers in the afernoon everyday, while I walk more than a kilometer every morning followed by a 15 minutes bike ride.
